I guess you use "10 and 2" technique the whole time you're driving? A lot of people drive one handed unless they're in a situation where they're turning a lot or in traffic. 10 and 2 for a while road trip seems a bit uptight. I spend a lot of time on the highway for work so maybe our driving experiences are different.
Besides, I need one hand to fiddle with my phone, play with the radio, beat my kids, etc.
