When I got the 5 jazz i was offered a number of trades on more expansive 4 strings(Sadowsky,Exotic,Nash).I liked the elite better specially the sound,its a perfect balance between vintage and modern.

I suppose when you compare them to Sadowskys and brands like Sandberg they are a fair bit cheaper, it is amazing how the Squier basses sound though, for the price they are..
Give the price a few weeks.....
(And sorry in advance for the TB violation).
PS - just left London yesterday. Probably best to save up for a warm coat this weekend.

I brought a 5-string home last week and have been bonding with the compound neck for 4 days. This could be my main player for a while. I dig everything about it.

I had to do a review of the Elite for a bass magazine. Played on it for a few weeks. Really like the Elite bass. Was tempted to buy one but in the end I didn’t. I made a video of it at that time:

The body color is stunning but IMO it SCREAMS for a white or aged white pearloid guard.
I’m not a J guy, but I do have an Elite P bass. It’s the only bass thus far that has relieved my GAS. Sure it’s not totally gone, but every time I go to the store and play a new bass my overriding thought is “yeah but it just doesn’t feel/sound as good as my Elite P!”

I melted when I saw the finish and the fingerboard. Solid black ebony. No striping. Then I made the mistake of playing it for 20 minutes. Like sex on the first date.

Haha! the same thing happened to me when i layed eyes on the Yellow Mustang over in Chicago, it was like, oh dear, if it plays as good as it looks then im screwed and so is my bank account..
What i love about the Elite P is its so versatile! one big roll of the pickup pot and its a completely different bass!
I love almost everything about it! It’s such a fantastic instrument. It’s incredibly versatile, the C-D compound neck profile is great, the J pickup sounds great for a PJ style bass (often times in other PJs the J is way too weak), and it can go from sounding dead-on exactly like my regular MIA Fender P to sounding like a completely different bass. Plus it’s sexy af. I’m always micro-tweaking my truss rod because it’s my primary and it sees a lot of temperature changes and such, it’s really nice having that truss rod adjustment wheel. No special tools and quick adjustments are a breeze.
I’m not the biggest fan of the preamp. It’s not terrible or anything but I definitely prefer it in passive mode. In fact, I don’t even keep batteries in mine and the active/passive switch is basically a glorified mute switch. It’s cool that the option is there though.
Fender really knocked it out of the park with this one, in my opinion.

I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment of the pre. In passive mode with a Linden EQ in the chain it’s magical.
I really dig the thickness of the active switch, but also love the woodier sound of the passive mode, and have recently been using the Lehle classic bass boost pedal, which has really brought my passive basses alive, its incredibly noticeable!
Love mine, but still working on getting a little more liveliness and dynamics from the pups even in passive mode, never used the preamp live even once.. I pulled the pre and went all passive v/v/t/t but reinstalled pre to get 2nd take on it? No noticeable change. Also just went from EB cobalt bright flats to Pressurewounds. I’m thinking of favoring my neck pup from my usual neck rolled slightly back and bridge dimed which I’ve been doing over a decade? I don’t know, sounds a bit different to me then my other standard jazz basses but it feels and plays so well it still gets the call for ever gig!
