American Special Precision Bass

Hello lowenders!
I have recently posted that I am finally giving in and beginning the search for a Fender Precision bass. I have owned tons of basses in my lifetime and played even more, but have never actually owned a fender p bass. I seem to always be searching around for that p bass tone when I'm in my little studio ( if u can call it that ) and I have gotten close, but I know it's no substitute for the real thing. My favorite of all the possible models is the American Deluxe P bass because I love the PJ configuration. I AM open to others and am really just lying for something that will mostly be used in a stud environment and occasionally gigged with ( unless it becomes my main damey). Checking out the American Special, it looks like a nice option for a lot lower budget than the American Deluxe pj. There are a few I have found for around 800.00
I didn't know if there were aNy of you out there who would advise for or against this particular model for any reason...( I'm sure I'll find both)
But I would like to hear any feedback on this model. If you have any you'd care to offer up.

I A/B'd a Special and an American Standard last week. Also never owned a "real" P Bass (2 Squiers though). I settled on the AM Std, because it is so darned thumpy, but can't get the warm mid-range tone of the Special out of my mind. Might be one in my future.

That sounds like the warm mid I have been lusting for for years. There's just something about it that soothes my ears.
