Amp/cab for detailed/punchy Flatwound sound

the schroedinger cabs lack what I would consider useful low end.

Here is a list of greenboy cabs I have owned or do own:

fEARful 12/6/1 x2, 15/6, 1515/66/1, greenboy DuallyT.

And cabs I have played through enough to have a pretty good opinion on:

fEARful 1212/6, fEARless F112, F115, F212, greenboy Bassic12, Bassic15. I actually have a F212 on order right now.

You could easily gig with a single F115. It will get louder than a 410. Per power handling, you can use just about anything. It will be gigable with anything between 200-1000 watts.

What an excellent way to put it! I would like to see speakers sold without any reference to specific wattages. That practice leads to many misconceptions on the part of inexperienced users. Your excellent summation covered everything a potential buyer needed to know to make an informed decision to buy, or not to buy, without getting tangled up in technical specifications. Well done!

There is no uniform way of rating cabs power handling. Lots of manufacturers use thermal ratings at 1khz, which isnt useful for bass players.

Thanks for your opinions about Ampeg amps/cabs. Very interesting. I've also mostly tried them with Ampeg-cabs.



Regarding the FEARLESS-cab: I couldn't find any wattage ratings on the Greenboy-site(s). What is yours rated? Do you play with a single F115, or always combined with another?

You should give the Mesa Walkabout a shot. Punchy as heck and easy to dial in whatever detail you might want. I agree - those Ampeg cabs define the Ampeg sound to me. I like them a lot myself as they give most heads that warm Ampeg vibe which just works.

Funny that I find their heads to be a bit lackluster when played into other cabs. Not horribly bad, but not my favorite at all. Hard to beat the SVT/810 vibe, but I strongly preferred the Super Bassman over the SVT into my NV412. I liked the SVT 7 Pro over any of the PF Heads, but thought the Mesa was much warmer and more rich than any of them.

I guess I'm a fan of Ampeg cabs - I find the heads good, but not great

Ashdown evo 500 and a cab with tens and the horn off. Listen to some of the band Air live, they use one it sound awesome with flats.

As a first step, I'd keep the amp and replace the cab with a Bergantino for full tight lows, punchy mids and nice highs.

I'm using an Aguilar amp and Berg 212 cab and my flats on a P bass sound great.
