Double Bass Amp for doubling?

+1 for the Coda/Clarus. Amazing for upright, has HPF and you can set separate EQs for each input.

I was extremely lucky to pick the combo up for $120. Not working at the time the seller sold it as parts. I changed the internal fuse.

That said - I still have a Markbass LM2 kicking about which I prefer for a straight EB gig. IMO if you're a cork-sniffer with your bass tone, an amp which covers both scenarios will still be a compromise (albeit a decent one).... So I guess it comes back to how fussy you are.

I am not exactly a "cork sniffer" (certainly not literally, but metaphorically, maybe a bit)... But I double on musical theatre gigs, where band space is often at a premium and front of house support can be sketchy. My point, before I hijack the thread, is that there are so many variables (as I'm finding) to finding good tone...and that in some cases a one-size-fits-all setup just won't produce decent results. I don't think that makes you a cork sniffer per se.

Thanks for all the replies. I've settled on the AI Clarus series 4+ head. I use a Barefaced Super Midget and another similar cab with an Eminence Kappalite 3012LF driver for EB gigs and I run my P bass with flats and foam under the strings. Although the Clarus is not really an EB head I can get exactly the old-school warmth and thump I like, and of course the Clarus with the Super midget is just great for the upright. One thing in favour of the Clarus also is the linear taper of the pots, makes it so much easier to set levels than say the GK MB500, which has the mute switch right next to the very touchy gain knob. I don't use any preamps, to me they're just more stuff to carry and set up when I'm already carrying and setting up the PA, monitor system and light rig, so a head needs to be plug and play. Onwards and upwards!

I had the original Baby Blue 2x8. I liked the sound of the cabinet, the head just wasn't my cup of tea. It sounded better on EB than DB with my instruments, pickup etc. at the time.

yeah, they are different for sure. the work around I came up with is I run both instruments through a tone bone bass bone (to make switching easier) and so I can dial in the right tone for each. electric on the bass bone and upright on the amp, using the bypass function on the amp when using electric.
