Amp for Progressive Rock

I think you would find an EBS Classic 450 head for that kind of money! It is basically a stripped down EBS head that delivers the EBS sound, but a bit more rock'n roll due to the dual mid controls that is very helpful to find the sweet spots in the midrange easily and the drive on this amp is absolutely amazing. Check out Link Removed they recorded their new album Lazarus Bird using this head.

Well, back in the heyday of prog, the amp was HIWATT.
Floyd, Crimson, Genesis, Tull, ELP ... about all the British prog except Yes. Even Rush (Alex) used them.
So for $1000 I'd say try out something similar but with modern features - the Peavey VB-2
Its' a big, powerful (225W clean and warm), el34 based modern bass amp. It really reminds me of a HIWATT 200 (though probably better).
I gotta check out Porcupine Tree.

Around $1000. I play similar stuff to Porcupine Tree (obviously). Something warm sounding. Sorry if this is an annoying thread. I haven't assimilated into the way things work around here yet.
