TBH I was actually quite surprised when I popped the lid and realized that the entire case is plastic. I was questioning my purchase when I saw that, but it's under warranty so I'm not too worried about it and I'm sure that's part of the reason why it only under 5 pounds. My concern would be about the case cracking if dropped. It sounds great and has more than enough power. I find the fan to be a bit noisy and can be heard (but not loudly) if you're in a bedroom or small area. You'd never hear it in a gig situation but it might be heard in a studio situation.
As you can see from the photos the layout is very clean and tidy. It actually looks like an amplifier that could be serviced relatively easily if ever needed. A long time ago I bought the LMII when everybody was raving about how great they were. I remember popping the lid off and looking inside and just about falling off my chair at how cluttered and messy looking it was. It had enough white goo and ribbon cables inside of it on top of a board crammed full of everything that it looked like a nightmare to service. I'm happy to say that this new 58R looks nothing like that inside it is very clean and everything looks easy to service.

That's a real beauty. A nice clean layout such a joy to see compared to some of the rat's nests that passed for wiring jobs back in the day.
My bass amp of choice for quite a few years. I also had the matching concert slave amp.
My newest purchase Ampeg Venture V7. I have to admit that I have never been big Ampeg fan but I really like the sound of this one. The layout is what you would expect from modern small form factor class D heads everything crammed in a pretty tight. But it looks clean overall and Appears to be fairly easy to work on. I will say that it is very strange to pop the lid off of an Ampeg amp and see the words Yamaha Guitar Group inside. Overall I think that ampeg has done a pretty good job with this particular series of amps. The grit circuits sound pretty tube like and I also like that you get both the B15 and the SVT variants. The built in compressor is your typical single knob style but it actually works pretty good if you take your time to dial it in. It's very similar to the one knob compressor design that was in my TC RH 450 head. You just turn the knob till you find the sweet spot.

As somebody who also owns a silverface 74 dual showman Reverb head. it might not say bass on it anywhere but if you plug a bass into it it will definitely sound killer especially on any cabinet that has a 15 in it.
From everything I've seen and read, the various Showman amps were for bass as much, if not more for bass than the Bassman.
I played through a bassman 100 back in the day And to be honest I can notice any difference in tone except for the the Reverb and vibrato in the showman head. The bassman's had 140 jbls in the cabinets and the showman's had 130s in them. Many people don't realize it but a showman or bassman head with with two 215 cabinets loaded with jbls was a pretty powerful amp in its day.
.They still are even nowadays. Maybe even more so because pas are so efficient now that even a 50-watt bassman head on top of an efficient cabinet is usually more than enough
I can vouch for that regarding the early '70s Princeton Reverb Amp, 1962 Concert Amp, and 1966 Band-Master amp I've owned.
Here’s the ‘66 AB165 done up for guitar. The bass channel is redone like a Trainwreck and the normal channel is stock. Has a MV and a Mid pot on the back.
And yeah, one can build a pretty good bass amp with the old Fenders by increasing the filtration. Up to say 100uF on the first two caps in series. That’ll make ‘er thump.

My showman is the later model silverface a 74 I believe I haven't had it open for a while but it has the master volume and the push pull switch on it. In fact with the exception of a new set of tubes that I put in it it is absolutely 100% untouched inside and it was working great I just wanted to preserve the original tube so I swapped in a new set. I really don't use it that much is why I'm reluctant to make any changes to it it definitely needs filter caps though no question about that just cuz the age and for no other reason
I really like that filter cap eyelet board. Did you make that or buy it? If you bought it where from?

Acoustic Control 833 power amp I’ve had in storage since the early 80’s. A relic from the rack era.
Bringing the voltage up slow to condition the caps. It still kills. I’m driving it with my new Subway Pre DI mk2.
