Amp Head Suggestions

The LH1000 hissing? What are your settings on the LH1000 and your bass? Most bass cabs hiss because somewhere down the line you are boosting way too much high end above 5khz. In reality, high end at 5khz and above is just about useless for live bass guitar tones. It's basically emphasizing every ounce of noise you are making on the bass. Fingers moving, fret buzz, and so on. You will barely hear the extreme high end if you move to the right or left of the tweeter. A little bit of that clarity is nice, but in reality you need to focus on the 1khz to 3khz range of high end for bass guitar. You can really hear this frequency range and generally 10" speakers put these sounds out. Along with that, 1khz to 3khz is a great place to get clarity for finger style playing and to make pick playing sounds pop out.

The tube in the LH1000 may be microphonic/not working correctly.

At this point, I think you need to figure out what is going on with the LH1000. Are you possibly looking for a different overall tone?

Agree with everything you're saying. It seems that the hot highs of the Hartke are just not matching up with my cab. I can adjust everything to sound stunning with the horn on. But with it off, no matter what I do, it's just too muddy. I do have my highs a tad high, but my 62 reissue is growly and really quiet. So it requires a little boost. I didn't have a problem with the Markbass head I had with the horn up. I'm leaning towards the GK 1001RB now.

I had a microphonic tube, but it's been replaced, and the head sounds good with any cab without a horn, like my SVT 1x15. But I love my 410. I think I am looking for something different. I liked the simplicity of the LH1000, but I'm finding it tough to get a great tone with just a treb, mid, and low. The simplicity might be limiting me. The next step is to bring the cab to GC and plug it in to the GK!

I see your point. Sounds like time o get something new! GK is a great choice and will definitely be a different sound.

I think I've definitely decided on the GK 1001RB. I had a few friends rave about them this weekend. One even plays out of an Ampeg like I will be doing, and he says it screams with clarity and tone. Exactly what I'm looking for. So the GK will soon solve my problem. Hello GAS!
