Amp recommendations??

Hey fellow bassists- I know it's all about personal choice and what particular sound you like, but Im in the market for an amp (head and cabinet or two). Interested in hearing what brands, models and configurations you all like, use and also why?

I have two amps that are my favorite.
Gallien-Krueger 800RB & AMPEG PF-500
I play these through my BERGANTINO NV610 cab.
Love the tone!!!

I have 4 amps currently.
GK 2001RB - It's my muscle/versatile amp. I can plug up to 4 cabs rated @4ohms.

GK 800RB - Solid amp with a good reputation and the classic GK growl.

GK 400RB - Great for practice and small to medium gigs. Louder than other amps I've tried with 200 watts.

AMPEG PF500 - Classic Ampeg tone plus AUX in for my iPOD when I want to practice with headphones and music.

I have 3 cabs currently.

GK NEO 4x12 - Stand alone cab that can put out massive amount of volume.
Paired with my 2001RB, 800RB, and PF-500.

Berg NV 6x10 - Great tone, Versatile sound.
Paired with my 800RB, PF-500, and 400RB.

Avatar SB 1x12 - Portable and strong sounding.
Paired with my 400RB, and PF-500.
I would like to replace this cab with a GreenBoy 12/6/1 someday or a Berg 112 or Berg 115.

I have GAS for:
Eden Navigator preamp
Aguilar TH-500
Eden WT-400

Good Luck with your research!

You'll get much more useful responses if you tell us what you want to do with the amp.

Are you going to be playing in bands with it, or is it for home practice use?

What sort of music do you mostly play?

If you're in a band what's the set up? i.e. 1 or 2 guitars etc.

Yeah, I'm not sure how useful our subjective opinions on what we like best will be, given that preferences here are about as varied as they could possibly be as far as amplification gear.

To answer your question, though, I run a Mesa/Boogie D-180 head, because I have no use for clean headroom, and a Sunn 2000S cab, because nothing exceeds like excess.

Hi Scott, I use Bergantino AE112 cabs. They are light and sound great. 2 work for most of my bands but I have a third to use with my Thunderfunk TFB750 if 2 cabs isn't enough. I sold my 2 AE210's and AE410 because they just weren't getting used.

These days I'm also using an Aguilar TH500 amp. With 1 or 2 AE112 cabs this amp just sounds great. I don't like "clank" and I don't like "boom". IME, the Berg cabs just nail a fat, warm sound without any of the problems a bad room can bring.

If my cabs got stolen tomorrow I’d go straight out and replace them with Bergantino’s CN cabs.

I play all musical genres, apart from heavy rock/metal/punk, and this rig easily covers everything I've been asked to play.

Thanks guys for all your input. New to the forum here and bass equipment in general. I suppose I just need to play a bunch of different ones to see what I dig and not just go by brand name. I'll check out all your recommendations and older post in the forum as well. Cheers!
