Hey there,

I have an ampeg 4 pro head with 410hlf cab. It is making this TERRIBLE crackling, staticy noise when I am playing at higher volumes. Could it be a tube problem? A speaker problem? I bought the cab new about 9 months ago and have not played it too loud. The head was purchased at the same time, but B-stock (demo unit) from Ampeg.

So, which sounds like the culprit?

Also, rather than dropping the money on new tubes, could I clean them to make them not sound like ass?

Lastly, does anyone have a tube replacement suggestion? i.e. Ampeg says the first 12ax7 is a Groove Tube, but which are the other two, and what do you reccomend.

THANKS!

More info needed...Is the head on top of the cabinet? If you separate the head from the cabinet, does the noise stop? Could be vibrating a bad connection, microphonic tube, bad jack, bad cable, etc....
Are you possibly hearing the amp clipping through the horn in the cabinet?
