Ampeg AV210 vs. 810

I've tried my WalkAbout through an Ampeg 810 and liked it alot. However, I'm not too keen on hauling it around. The micro rig version (AV210) has similar tech specs, but does it have the sound? If I was to use two (or four!) of them, would that be in the ballpark soundwise?

From what many Ampeg lovers have said in the past, it's very close to sounding like an 810, except you need to bump the bass knob up just a little to get the low end to sound the same. The cab is a little smaller than 1/4 of an 810E. It is a tweeterless, sealed cab like the 810E. The 810E has drivers that are further off the ground, and closer to your head, and that will sound different than a single SVT210AV. 4 of them will be 8 ohm in series parallel wiring, or 2 ohm in all parallel wiring. Not sure how loud 4 of them will be compared to a 810E, but I would assume pretty close. 2 is decently loud.

This weekend I tried my WA head through two 210AV's.
Straight out of the Scout cab, with no changes to volume or EQ, I heard more volume and a tighter low end. A vintage tone with more bite than the Scout.
Great rock tone! I must get a couple of theese!

Love mine. Wes is dead-on about how they behave. 4 won't quite get you an 810e, but for as small and medium duty as it is, it's quite a nice cab.

+1 on the (2) 210AV's. I just got two of them and they sound great. They are very well built (although a little screw tightening is prudent). I think the internal volume is slightly less than a chamber of an 810 squareback (due to the sealing of the input jack area), but they perform very well at low to moderate volumes with my SVT. They also sound great wired in series with my B25B. I will probably try that rig this weekend as this will be my first opportunity to gig with them. I'm just happy to find a sealed rig that I can transport easily in my RX-8!

Tried my WalkAbout/SVT210AV-rig on a rehearsal yesterday. It sounds great!

It's a lot louder than the Scout and a bit more old school. I don't know any tech specs, but my impression is that the combo has more top and bottom end, while the Ampegs are punchier and tighter sounding. My guess is you can get quite close to the SVT sound with a bit of EQ-ing.

I've never been a fan of 10's, but I think these cab's just won me over!

That's a big coincidence! I have been wondering how the walkabout with 2 or 3 210av's compared to the scout cab. I just got a scout a couple of days ago, and wanted to keep it mint and not gig with it, but use the amp with the 210av's tonight. More to carry. It will be louder. Sounds like I should continue with that plan. I have some fill in gigs coming up with a much louder band, and I'll need the 3 cabs that night, so I might as well make sure it works beforehand!
Just about any cab plays lower and higher that the 210av's. that doesn't make them better. It just depends what you are looking for. I like that the cab isn't boomy. It's pretty growly and punchy.
