Ampeg B-100R or VR200 Micro Stack?

I've had my Micro-VR for about 6 months now and I am beyond impressed with it. It is LOUD with the matching 210AV. The tone I can get out of it with different brands of basses is amazing. The vintage old school look also sold me on it

Honestly, I'd say get the VR.

I owned the VR for a while and loved it. I sold it a little while ago, and now have the B100R. I can get VERY similar tones from both (all fantastic). My B100R is really only for playing in my basement. I could possibly see myself playing acoustic gigs with it someday, but that's not my focus right now.

The VR is more portable, more expandable, more powerful, and louder (slightly), probably noticeably more so with a second cab.

I'll probably end up with both at some point. They're both VERY cool. SO, unless you love the look of the B100R more, and/or you don't plan on lugging it around much, I think the VR is the better way to go.


Also, honestly, as cool as the VR looks (and it does look SO cool), it is more of a 'novelty' kind of cool, whereas I think the B100R look more like a 'real' amp...if any of that matters...and it's all just opinion.....

The portability factor is a very good point. The B-100R is deceptively heavy for a small 100-watt solid-state combo. Even at it's size it isn't much of a "grab-and-go" type of amp. I use it mainly as a backup, leave-at-home type of amp nowadays. I recently brought it out for small stuff that is usually a "grab-and-go" situation, like subbing in a few low-volume gigs and parties/get togethers where there's other musicians and/or people who love to sing and I have found myself thinking "now would have been a good time to have the MicroVR". I still keep the B100R because it's got a certain mojo that is hard to find on other amps and because I also think it'd be great for acoustic gigs down the road when everyone is a little older and a little deafer, but I've got the MicroVR on my G.A.S. list precisely for it's portability.
