I bought the GK RB400/210 today. I was able to get a cool sales rep at the Guitar Center here in Miami to get me one shipped over to audition it. I mean, at Sam Ash they wanted me to put 20% up front just to get it to the store, but that was a story for another forum. Anyway, I was able to try a good variety of similarly priced combos but not the Ampeg 2x10. The GK sound impressed me and it's not too big for my bedroom. I think it meets and exceeds my expectations. VX3500.... what was I thinking?

But can! As far as i can work out its only a few screws. But there is no point to it really, iv got at 400rb 1x15 combo and it gives me LOADS of headroom, but im thinking i will need an extension speaker to go with it some time soon... So Daniel, do you know the retail of a 4x10 or 2x10 in the UK (sorry to put you on the spot). I think its great that a rep is available to talk to without having to go direct to the company.
I have tried an ampeg combo, not sure of the model name, but it was "high range" according to the sales pitch, found it to be good, but just lacked that "thing" that my GK has.

Hey Dan, I would like to know why you can't put the head from the combo into the regular casing? I have a 1001RB 2x10 along with a 1x15RBH cab. I wanted to be able to remove the head from the combo, put the head into the regular case and maybe use it with a 4x10 RBH and a 1x15RBH cab. What gives?
There is no cover plate with the head in the combo. Yes you could remove it, but you would need to get a cover plate and rack ears. And, you would void your warranty.
I am very impressed. After hours of auditioning combos at Guitar Center, I was forced into thinking that for the price range I was shopping I wasn't going to get the sound I really wanted. The GK has totally proved me wrong. It handles everything from the slaps to the sweet bottom end rumbles. Still playing with the "contour" and "presence" knobs. I consider this combo a great value.
You can't go too far wrong with either one. I tried them both and ended up with an Ampeg BA115 it's a 100 watt 1x15 combo. I thought it sounded deeper and was louder then the 200 watt Ampeg 2x10 combo. Plus I didn't want to pay for all the effects.
