Ampeg BA210v2 rattle (vibration)

Did a quick search in this forum for “Rumble issues” and came up with 1600 results. I know it’s not an accurate accounting of Fender’s QC record, but it’s far more than just a blanket statement that you feel Fender’s QC is better than Ampeg’s.

Own few rumble combo from 1st gen to 3rd gen, never meet single issue. Try BA 150 and 210 v2 at GC, both have loud cooling fans and the BA 150 driver start distort/fart at 3 o'clock volume. My rumble 200/150 still sound strong and solid even 4 o'clock volume.

Knob positions mean nothing. All that means is Fender adjusted the gain control down.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced a rattle from this combo. I have narrowed it down to the metal tray the amp components are on. I tighten all screws on the top but the rattle persists.
I've also tried to put cardboard under the amp since there is a small space between the cab and amp.

Any ideas?
Was it hard to get the speaker out?

I believe the amp is in a separate enclosure than the speaker for his model as it appears to be the same basic design as mine. So, I'm not sure how to interpret your question.

The speaker comes out easily by removing the grill, and unscrewing the screws that hold the speaker onto the faceplate. You can do all of this without touching the amp, or vice versa.

Fender Rumble is step a head than Ampeg BA in QC.

Thought about going with Fender, but went with the GK MB210II. I have to say, it's a great little combo. You can't quite get the Ampeg growl, but it is super tight and punchy with plenty of volume for my needs. And it doesn't make any noises (except the ones you want it to make).

GK is good stuff, no doubt. I used to own a first gen 210. One way to get a more Ampeg-like tone would be to add a VT pedal. Happy playing!

It's happening on all notes. It is the amp housing that is rattling. I ended up folding a piece of this cardboard and put it in the space between the amp and the box. It seems to have stopped it. Not sure how permanent of a solution this will be though.
Is that all you did it… Just kind of slide some cardboard between the amp and speaker cabinet. Or did you have to loosen up the screws and try to wiggle the cardboard underneath the panel, then tighten the screws back up?

That was it. There was enough of a gap between the amp and the cab that the cardboard fit in there without any loosening of the screws.

That’s weird! I appreciate your response. I know this is somewhat of an old thread. This rattle is really irritating... especially since I bought the amp brand new (in the box) and only jammed with it about 5 times at moderate volumes. What do you think about putting rubber washers/grommets between the screws and amp chassis? You know, like actually put the screws through the washers between the top of the amp (inside) and the top of the control chassis, then tighten that SOB down! Thanks again.

Ive found combos a bit hit and miss for rattles of mamy brands.
I tried a few of the new ampeg combos a while ago. The 1x10, 1x12 and both while sounding very good imo, had rattles. And I've tried many other combos which also rattle in some form or another.
I have owned a new Rumble that rattled, was the rear plate of the amp. Also had one of the new Orange combos which also rattled. Had a ashdown 2x10 combo that also rattled. All of them had to go. While not expensive combos there not cheapo no name items. Just a little bit of dampening here and there etc probably would of solved the issues.
It really annoys me especially when I like the tone of the combo.

I'm not going to take a financial bath for a rattle. I'll either get that piece creased to kill the rattle, or some foam to dampen it.

If it's a new amp with a warranty, just have it serviced under warranty. Possibly, the dealer might also exchange it for you.

Don't risk losing your warranty by attempting a half-ass repair,

I ended up selling the amp shortly after this post. The rattle went away for the most part but then the cardboard would move and the rattle would start again. It got to annoying for me to keep it. I do have the 115 model and it doe snot rattle at all.
Thanks for the info. Going to call Ampeg Monday to see what they have to say. The amp is still under warranty.

Okay, the thread"s almost a decade and a half old, but what the heck. Evidently this model is know for the rattle. I play guitar, not bass, but I do own a old Peavey bass for the rare occasion that I have to fake it (Mostly solo recording at home. Great bass with a very thin neck which is handy for my short fingers.) I don't play out much anymore since I'm in my 60s and arthritis is rushing in rather than creeping, but when my friends get together, I get "volunteered" to supply most of the equipment since I have loads of it. Back in the early 1970s I inherited a Univox "stack" (a pitiful piece of equipment) when what was laughing called the head died from the school band. Eventually the 12" speaker died so I replaced it with an Eminence. Since I got Peavey Classic 30, it open up the head I was using, a Sovtek MIG-50 for a bass head with the Univox/Eminence cab. Now THAT'S s good sounding amp.I bought the Sovtek back when I finished nursing school (my 3rd degree and the first time I was making big bucks) and wish I'd bought several of their products while they were still around. It's basically sa 50 watt Bassman without the price.
