Ampeg Blue/Silver grill cloth not available anywhere

Does anyone know why the Ampeg-style blue/silver grill cloth is no where to be found, and no eta for possible restock?

I have a Crate Be15 that I’d like to re-cover with tolex and the blue/silver grill cloth to match my V4B and 2 svt210av’s, but all the online stores (Fliptops, Antique electronics supply, etc) are out of it.

I even saw a thread here that Ampeg themselves is low on their stock.

I don’t mind waiting to take on the project, but I’d like to have a sense as to when I might be able to get the parts to tackle it.

The black-silver is readily available: Invalid Link Removed

The blue-silver supply from retailers dried up in 2017. You might try Loud customer service ([Invalid or Expired Link Removed]) and ask if they have any available. They do sell the Heritage black cloth.

The retailers buy rolls from Loud. These days production is in China, the cloth is produced there and shipped to the manufacturing facilities within that country. For Loud to have any in the US, they have to pay to ship and import it. That comes down to a business decision. When and if they restock is anyone’s guess. They do like to keep some available for special projects.

If they aren’t using a grille cloth or vinyl in current production, the materials available will be based on current inventories. Years ago, they stopped offering he blue check as found on the early Ampeg amps such as the B-15. The people that currently offer it, such as Mark at Vintage Blue, have to work with people in China to accurately reproduce the pattern and then schedule a small run. This is an expensive investment and the required back and forth and associated delays are time consuming. If Loud has decided to not carry the blue-silver in the US, it will come down to someone reproducing it on their own and distributing it to retailers.

Hopefully Loud will stock it in the US at some point.

As per this thread (last month was the latest update), since the LOUD to Yamaha transition was/is occurring, there is no stock. This will likely continue, based on the info from those close to the transition, for a while yet.

Ampeg Early 70's Grill Cloth

I am hoping it will be soon though so I can finish refurbing my V4 cabinet. Crossed fingers.

What kinds of lengths do yo need? I believe I have what you are looking for. I have a 42"x 35" length so I might even have enough to do both heads. I bought this for my fEARful 1212/6 but I went with a metal grille. I was saving it for the eventual guitar cabinet I build but it sounds like you two could use it a lot more than I can. I can live using a different material on my eventual build. Plus, I need to de-clutter.

That would be awesome @DiabolusInMusic ! I’ll measure the cab grill when I get home, but I think a 35x35 square would do it (it’s the 4x12 V4 cab).

@armyadarkness would the remainder be enough for your CL grill? They are wide, but likely not that tall.

Would be great if we can get both projects from the single piece.

If you can't find it right away, be patient. Yamaha is gearing up Ampeg now and I don't think it'll be too much longer before they have some more cloth. So don't put any bogus imitations on them just yet :D
