Ampeg cab with 4 10's and 1 15... Anyone play it?

Mixing two different cabs is never wrong. The problem, though, is when the combination creates unwanted phasing (some notes sound louder while others sound quieter) and you cannot tell it happening unless you stand some 10-15 feet away. It's like gambling - it might or might not work well. Better spend money and get predictable results, no?

I totally agree. Maybe I found two cabs that are safe, maybe I can't hear the problem. We will se at the gig, because our rehearsal space is too litle to stand far from amp.

Artists use whatever they are given. I'd also use 410/115 combo if it was given to me free of charge

Mazdah, I believe you have some electronics and acoustics research to do. To the OP, that particular cab IMO is pure ick. If you do end up getting multiple cabs, your best bet is to buy matching ones.

Also Mesa (I think) had a cab with four tens and "15 in the middle.

In theory there are much better cabs than SVT-810E. Lighter, with better sensitivity, frequency response, with more power... But I like 810E and none cab is better than 810E for me. I trust my ears and I use what I like to use.

Those cabs have drivers that handle different frequencies.

fEARful 15/6, for example, has a 15" driver handling lows with a 6" driver handling mid frequencies. Hence it's name - a 2-way cab. It's all in the crossover, if I'm not mistaken.

Same with El Whappo.

The MESA I have no idea.

A typical 410 box, on the other hand, has all four 10" drivers handling low frequencies, thus effectively acting like one big speaker.

I love the 810e, too. But I'm not going to sit here and tell everyone that it's a perfect acoustically designed cab. It does sound great, but it beams upper mids and highs. That doesn't bother me. But phasing drives me nuts, so it's a good thing that it has full range drivers all of the same size.

Now you can be hostile every time this is brought up and try to shout everyone down who brings it up or you can accept that most standard bass cabs have flaws and you can still enjoy them. But the fact that you enjoy them doesn't mean those flaws aren't there.

You are 200% right Jimmy. 810E is far from being perfect but... those who love them, love them as they are So why bash them? They are industry stadards, and 410 + 15 stacks are right below them on The Intustry Standards List

Maybe because of my bad english I misunderstood the issue and took it as "you MUST NOT mix cabs because it WILL sound BAD, you MUST use two identical cabs otherwise you will sound like cr** "
instead of "mixing cabs can be risky, can cause some problems and some people just prefer two identical cabs".

I did not realise how phasing issues work exactly - I thought it makes notes muddy because of some speakers are slower and some faster and two together generates some kind of microdelay. Now I know I was wrong.
But sometimes I get those problem with just only one cab - in some rooms some notes are just luder and some are barely audible. I always thought that was bad acoustics in room and I just played some notes harder and some notes softer to deal with it.

I had 810E and I will get back one as soon as possible, regardless of its flaws

Like cardboard. I had them on a few gigs about 10 years ago. Always unplugged the 115. It didn't last long in the Ampeg catalog for good reason.

How could it go wrong? Nice punchy 10"s and a that bass 15". Everyone knows that's a recipe for success!!!

Nobody uses 400 watt 4x10s for highs anymore...duh

Your supposed to use 100 watt car stereo 6" speakers. So they don't " beam" when they blow lol
