Mechanical was sort of terse and negative but, IDK Mr M, you are well known here on TB, but you post under a screen name that is fairly anonymous (part of your name, similar to my own), and use a James Brown bobblehead picture as your avatar (now famous of course - through your Free Jimmy period on TB

That you don't get paid to support Ampeg through your (fully disclosed) Ampeg endorsement, has been repeated often, but your advocacy of Ampeg is steadfast and legendary, pretty much to a fault, so it kind of attracts this kind of reply from time to time - fair not not - particularly in a thread titled Ampeg Dissatisfaction. That kind of thing is very likely to bring out folks who are not big Ampeg fans.

Dudes. Thanks for your help on this! Last night at practice I tried a couple of your suggestions, and I settled in on cranking the gain to 11, tube gain to half, and used my master volume for volume control. It was plenty loud and boomy and bassy and the master volume was a little under 3. I also used the mid frequency selector on 2, and boosted those low mids a little bit. Also, I switched back over to a P Bass with quarter pounders on it, and it played like a dream. Plenty of attack to cut through when I used a pick, and really big and smooth when I switched to finger style. So all in all, there isn't an issue with the amp or cab, but rather just getting the settings to where they needed to be. I'm probably still going to take it in to a tech and have everything checked out since it's been a long while. But, I'm very satisfied with this amp now. Thanks to everyone who gave their input! It helped so much.
Maybe an Ampeg thread without Ampeg endorsees who mounts personal attacks on people who don't share their enthusiasm for everything Ampeg? Not paid money, but perhaps compensated with a discount? The gentleman in question brings a lot of useful advice to TB but also a lot of verbal violence.
Just let it die, man. This thread is over. TB'ers helped me fix my problem. Call people out on someone else's thread.

Thanks, man. I'm really happy everyone was able to help sort it out. I figured it had to be something I was doing wrong cause there's no way that rig should sound like poo.
I'd hold off taking it in to a tech, unless you have any other issues.
No need to pay a bench fee if it's working properly.
Sounds like it was just an EQ and volume/gain fix.

I agree with Slackerprince. I threw those items about potential problems with it as possibilities, not sure things. But if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Definitely compensated with a discount, BTW. Never denied that. But it's still me giving them the money, not the other way around. I'm strictly B-level here. As for the so-called "verbal violence," I've seen far worse directed toward me.
