Ampeg Isovent - Jack Plate Circuit Board.

Speaking of the controversy concerning the Jack Plate, my friend is bringing it down to using just two of the three quarter inch inputs, and this leaves room for possibly including a single band Parametric EQ.

This may be the least expensive and simplest option. After zeroing in on the offending F Bomb, I can lock, NOT glue, the knobs in place.

Since we got on the topic of computerized speakers, I am toying with the idea of possibky converting the Isovent into a computer controlled self powered speaker. ..... I am pondering if there is anything out there I could use to convert the Isovent.

As I said, the Isovent is in my friend's music shop being worked on.

Won't know anything until early to the middle of next week.

We all are waiting patiently to see what the new wiring does.

If the wiring doesn't fully clear the problem up then we will probably add a Parametric EQ.

I am NOT sure if a High Pass Filter will work because that option seems to defeat the purpose of the speaker.

And NOT crying for attention. I already have more than I need in all of you. Now that's something cry about.

So take that.

Ummm, are you aware that the eq circuit doesn't go in the speaker? It goes BEFORE the power amp.

Here are some DSP systems.

You can always tell which could DSP from those that aren't simply by looking and seeing a way for a computer to connect and communicate with the DSP Module.

The Modules without the means of communicating, unless they are something like Blue Tooth, are generally NOT DPS.

Look at these and see which ones are DPS.

On the one hand, adding a Parametric EQ will Dial Out the Offending F Bomb, and I am sure this will yield and produce good enough results, but on the other hand, by the inclusion of a DSP system, one can do More than just simply Dialing something Out, for example by Dialing something In.

Get where I am going with this?

No sir, this is not at all true. MANY DSP based powered speaker systems have been sold that do not include a way to communicate, everything is programmed from the factory, optimized for the particular speaker. In fact, many designers do NOT want people messing with their protective algorithms.

Even though I have done considerable work with computers, music is the one area of my life in which I did NOT want computers to over run everything, anyway NOT right away, and aside from a few tid bits of digital in my gear, I have stayed away from over running my life in music with computers.

However in this case I will make an exception.

Since the Isovent has decided to be a pain in the ass, and somehow more basic physics and electronics Won't solve it's problem, then it's time to Get Tough with the Isovent by applying some computerized DSP.

Aside from Self Powered DSP Modules, companies like Crown are offering very afforable DSP Power Amplifiers, and since the Parametric EQ is to go - Before the Power Amp, then maybe thinking about eventually getting a DSP Amplifier should be an option I would want to consider.

In fact this option is now on the table, NOT right away, but down the road a piece after I take care of Some Previously Obliged Financial Obligations.

...Ampeg did the right thing and ditched them a long time ago.

Yeah I believe they only give you one bandpass filter per channel.
He'd have to go to a DriveCore to get the EQ feature.

It would be cheaper to just use a ROLLS RPQ unit before the power amp.

I'm pretty sure I said, early on, it had to go between the preamp and the power amp.

Details, details, details...

All of these solutions are more expensive than the cabinet it worth by a long shot. Reminds me of home studio guys who wouldn't worry about the quality of the tracking because they were going to fix it in the mix. I'll bet very few ever became successful that way.

DSP isn't going to fix the problem any more than parametric eq is going to fix the problem... mask the problem maybe, but it's not a true fix.
