ampeg love em hate em?

So i am about to join the ampeg stack family. and i want a versatile amp that will last me a while with minor up grades. say adding a 15 incher in it. what would be a good half stack to start off with that i could customize to make it louder. what would be a good rig.

First, what's your budget? Without that, nobody can advise you. Second, "love em hate em" is a funny question, because they are the most widely-used brand historically in bass backlines, with iconic amps, yet recent changes in the company have made a lot of people lose faith in them- you owe it to yourself to read as many of the past threads about Ampeg as possible.

P.S. Don't double-post your questions. Post one thread and then bump the thread if you want to bring it to the front page. :)

i love some of them and don't care for others...there's a lot of variation within the brand, i'd loosely compare ampeg with Jeep...each used to have 1 or 2 iconic representations but both now have a plethora of various models with different pros and cons, price points and target demographics

:)

I dislike them in every regard except for their look(which is the last thing I`d even consider on my list of needs in a brand).

Very one dimensional in sound. Most are incredibly heavy. And most seem to cost much more than they are worth(IMO).
