So is the PEAK light supposed to be going crazy or am I doing it wrong?

Depends on your gain setting, but it is not uncommon to hit that peak light during playing...especially if you play super dynamically and need to set gain to cover a wide range of playing levels.

Or....it simply could be that you want more power than the amp can provide and are cranking it all to get the volume level you need. If that's the case, you might look into something with a higher overall output

No way I'd buy an amp that is quieter with two cabs than it is with one.

It's not, really. You just can't push them to sound as good like it does with one cab. It's right on that cusp then it breaks up. That's not the issue at all.

However you can run that head LOUDER on other cabs without an issue and other 200 watt heads on those cabs without the break up problems. That is the real issue.

EDIT: In other words the volume gain isn't worth the price of admission for the second cab in it's current state if you have to run the gain and volume at 50% or less to make it work consistently.

Well, let's hope the revised models will be easily identified if/when produced. I'd hate to find older models eventually popping up for sale at good prices only to be needed to be sent in for the mod, even if for free.

...But, GO AMPEG!

No offense, but I call shenanigans on this particular point of view-with all due respect.

If there's a known and acknowledged problem with running that head with two cabs, fixing it and working backwards to owners with that fix is the only right thing to do.

In my own personal devalued opinion....

Also in my own opinion:
they get that de-bugged, and I might have to become an owner.
While I loved the rig when I had it, one cab wasn't enough, and two cabs didn't work.

Hutz: I believe what AmpegUSA was saying was that field numbers need to be significant before it can be pushed to engineering. Sure, every unit they sold may have this issue, but if only say three people (You, JimmyM, Tom for example) report it out of tens/hundreds of thousands sold, it's hard to go back to the engineers and say "fix this". I believe they basically just needed to hear enough reports of the same, reproducable issue before they could do that. Now they have though, so hopefully they have in fact narrowed down the issue and will take care of everyone under warranty and make a new product revision for future.

Also:
I don't believe Ampeg would come here, address the problem "in broad daylight," and then *not* follow up with their customer base.

Their level of caring seems to be demonstrably high with this: kudos!

I never said that they shouldn't work with owners to get the issue resolved. But first they have to identify if it's a design issue (which would effect most/all units) or simply a parts/assembly issue (which could only effect a few units). It sounds to me like Ampeg has simply figured out that it is not just a parts/assembly issue and is now engaging the appropriate resources to get this resolved. IMO, that's the correct way of doing it.

A00 was bad glue which made tolex fall off.
B00 was glue fix.
So
B01 or C00?

They should do the ADH00 (my initials) revision since I have probably been a little aggressive (aka PITA) in getting this looked at by support. :atoz: :)

I have corresponded with the kind folks from Ampeg. They view this as a real issue and will present a well thought out response. They're on it, guys.

Kudos not only to Ampeg, but to fenderhutz and Jimmy and everyone else who helped work towards a positive resolution.

Thanks especially to Hutz. And thanks to Ryan at Ampeg for keeping us posted and taking care of the folks who love these little badasses called the Micro VR. You, sir, are not at all lacking for awesomeness!

That new sig line of Fenderhutz made it a real issue real quick.

I didn't want anyone else to drop $900 on this setup for it to not work right. That's all. I could have gotten a decent 410 cab used and a head for way less than that. It was a combination of the style, tone, and weight that made up my mind. I added the second cab a month later due to needing a bump in volume/monitor near ear level and here we are.
