Ampeg Micro-VR stack? Anyone tried or has the pair?

I neglected to state that the matching 2 x 10 cab for the Micro V is 8 Ohms (so the power output from the head is 150 watts). I wonder if there would be a significant increase in loudness if you put the Micro V's full 300 watts into an 4 Ohm cab.

The Micro-VR is spec'd to put out 150 watts into 8 ohms and 200 watts into 4 ohms. We are just finishing up our bench testing of the Micro-VR (which will be in issue #4), so we should have some more insight, soon.

But to answer your question somewhat indirectly, the best way to get the most out of that head, IMHO, is to drive two of the SVT210-AV's. Sure, it will likely perform quite well with another 4-ohm cab, but the pairing with the two 8-ohm SVT210-AVs is really quite nice. :bassist:  :D

Hey Tom...Will the Micro-VR and two SVT210-AVs keep up with a standard rock drummer in a gig setting with PA Support?

I have not gigged with the Micro-VR driving the two cabs, but Chef has. He may chime in. The two cabs with my Walkabout certainly could keep up.

Tom.

My Micro-VR running 2 Markbass 112 cabs (@ 4 ohms) ran out of gas with a louder than usual rock band in a bar setting and it didn't have enough stage juice with the 2 cabs at an outdoor reggae/ska gig. It is just enough for a medium level drummer and stage volume. All these gigs used the PA for FOH. I love the tone and use it as an amp for about half my gigs, but use it as a preamp into my LMII for louder stage requirements. Just what you would expect from a 200 watt rig. Should be fine with any less demanding stages. It depends on your band. I expect that the SVT210-AVs are no more efficient than the Markbass cabs. I find that the Markbass are about average in efficiency compared to other cabs I've used.

I actually have the head, bought it new this summer. I think it sounds really good, but I have been running it through an Eden 4 ohm 4-10 cab.

It barks and sounds like an Ampeg.

I just bought back my SVT I sold to a friend a couple of years ago, 1987 skunkworks, so I am going to be selling the head and my eden cab.

Just what you need, she said, another bass amp. So I bought one a couple months ago. ;)

The local GC had them marked down $100 plus the $100 rebate from Loud showed up a few weeks later. Not a bad deal.

I really like it so far, it does a respectable job for 150 watts.

Plus the wife doesn't mind when I drag this one into the living room. :D

I'm in the market for a small/med rig and this seems to fit the bill.
Also tried the GK500 and it moved a 8x10 Aguilar like nothing.
VERY Impressed with that little monster as well.

Also a friend of mine have a GB mini head that sounds nice but I'm an Ampeg tone bass player at heart.
I just hope is that good and there are no quality issues etc...

A You Tube or any video will be a welcome addition to get to know this little amp better.

thanks,
Charles

So I'm out at Sam Ash and GC today. Both had the same old crap for bassists, and GC Winter Park still has no new Markbass stuff, which is horribly disappointing.

But the one new thing GC did have was a Micro-VR and 210AV, so I eagerly pulled a Precision off the wall and plugged in for the first time. It's really good! Not very loud, but certainly loud enough for my needs. It sounds a little more B-15-ish than I expected with a flat EQ, but SVT's right up when you cut mids. This one had a static-y mid pot and a light out on the limiter, but since it's a demo and we all know what they go through, I can't blame it on LOUD's incompetence. But it absolutely sounds like a tube Ampeg, no doubt.

But the cab was the real surprise. It's got a high end much closer to the vintage SVT cabs than the current 810e, and sounds pretty close to one otherwise, albeit on a smaller scale. It could take a pretty good pounding as long as you don't expect miracles.

Would I buy one? If I was in the market for a tiny medium volume combo with a satisfying tube vibe and some ass on it(it's way tinier than it looks in pics BTW), most definitely. There are smaller, louder, and lighter combos out there, but let's face it...none of them look nearly as cool, and that counts with me. I won't be getting one any time soon. I have enough amps for now. But I will give it my "Sounds like Ampeg to me" seal of approval.
