Ampeg Micro-VR stack? Anyone tried or has the pair?

Ampeg Micro VR :
I am returning mine.
The fan is annoyingly noisy. The pots are scratchy. It does not have the power output I expected for a 150-200w head.
Oh well. I may spend the extra $ and get either a GB shuttle 3.0 or a used LMII or similar.
;)

I do hope you like it and it serves your needs. I just thought it was not up to par for the $299 that I paid.
Maybe I got a 2nd- who knows. It sure looked new though.
:bassist:

I've had a Micro-VR head for a few months and love it. I run it through my 1965 B15 at home and through 2 112 Markbass cabs for gigs. It's plenty loud with a 4 ohm load. My LMII is backup at this point (though I used the LMII as power amp and the Micro-VR as a preamp for an outdoor stage). It is that good sounding - I am presently prefering its colored tone over the more accurate LMII, crazy as that sounds. Maybe this fling won't last the long run, but it sure is a great little piece of kit.

BTW, no scratchy pots or noisy fan here. I can't agree with bassnut - I don't think anything at the $300 mark touches this head.

I am glad ya'll like yours.
I guess I just got a dud unit. ... or could it be the fact I bought thru AMS?
????
well anyone can put out a dud, and this is the first dud i've heard about on here, so i can't imagine there are many duds out there. at least i hope. the demo at gc i played had scratchy pots but that's an easy fix.

edit: oops...second dud...there was another one on here that had scratchy pots.

I just ordered one of the cabs. Mostly I just want to use it as a practice and recording amp with my Ampeg SVP-Pro and SVT-IIP and a CA6. But two other uses have occurred to me:

1. sitting on top of an acme 210, for a micro-radiohead 810+sub rig
2. as a dedicated tweeterless dirt cab sitting on top of a clean cab.

If it sounds like you guys say it does ... then its going to be a really fun little piece of the arsenal.

I'm not that into the head just from looking at specs etc. Seems like a LMIII or LMTube on top of these cabs would be a great call for a micro-svt.
