Ampeg microSVT-VR?

Hey guys. I searched found some old stuff. Nothing much though.
Right now i'm on a BA115 combo. and would like to buy this cute little ampeg head. and run it through 2 Aguilar 1x12's. Good idea? Its a 200 watt head. My current 115 combo is only 100 watts.

You guys think this would be an upgrade? Please any feedback or reviews would be awesome!

I've heard the head sounds pretty good. Would it be an upgrade? Eh, it would get a little louder, but it sounds more like a lateral (but very cool looking) move to me, except for the cabs. The cabs are probably a good idea.

I own a Micro VR and it's a sweet little head but if you do decide to get one, I would suggest you get the matching cabs. Not because the Aguilar cabs won't rule but because I feel you'll need a more powerful head to really drive the Aggys. Plus the SVT210AV cabs are most likely less expensive, are 27 lbs, look sweet with the Micro VR and most importantly sound great. :) Here is a pic of my little rig to prove how sweet it looks.

how loud are those little cabs ?
do you have the possibility to post a soundclip or maybe a video on youtube ?

I'd stay away from the Brat Pack. The Ampeg SVT-VR mini stack looks pretty cool. I'm interested in seeing more pictures of them pop up. The Bass Gear Magazine from Winter NAMM has a little demo of the SVT-VR head and cab. It is pretty impressive. I'd have to hear it in person before ever buying it. I doubt you'd be at all upset with the Acoustic half stack, and that would be my first choice if I were using one of those as a primary rig.

Back on the subject of SVT-VR: if they made a more powerful version of the head I would be more interested in it. It sounds like it is rated at 200 watts when pushing a 4 ohm load. If it were more like 500 watts, I would put it on my list of micro heads I'd consider (if I were looking to buy one). But this rig would be a fun practice amp, albeit expensive to buy the set. And it could work as a gigging rig for some.

It's pretty cool stuff!

It would definitely be gigable for me, but maybe not for you. All depends on how loud you are onstage.

Jimmy, if you can gig with this then I know I'll be OK.

As Jackie Gleason used to say, "A little PA support and away we go!"

Actually for you young'uns Jackie only said, "And away we go..." but it sounded good anyway.

And if you're asking who Jackie Gleason is Google is your friend my friend.

The cabs really are impressive. I think I could probably gig with two and my Little Mark II. The Micro VR is pretty loud and sounds really nice but it's only 200 watts. I like it a lot but I wish they would have made it at least 300 watts and put a couple tubes in the preamp section. That being said, it's the sweetest practice amp I've ever had. :)

From experimenting I found out that the most irritating noise came from the fan creating vibrations in the chassis. First I took the fan completely loose from the chassis and started it up, and noticed the noise was at a tolerable level. I experimented with some dampening materials and mounting it in the place it always was, but since it was kind of narrow, I ended up with mounting the fan on the outside of the hole. I used big chunks of silicone glue to attach it, to provide dampening towards the chassis. Now it sticks out a bit, but I dont mind. I guess I reduced the fan noise by 30% which makes it to my ears at a tolerable level. By comparing with my Markbass 121 combo which has the same type of fan I think its not that much more noise now.
