Ampeg PF-350 Mega-Thread, V2.0

Pretty darn good, that's how it was ;) Obviously not quite SVT level, but in the same tonal family and very easy to get a good sound.

Weren't you afraid of underpowering the cabinet JimmyM?
Sorry, couldn't resist that!:D

Love that black-on-black with maple board P-bass too!

Ya, that bass clearly looks better on me than any other basses I've owned.

:D

And I know you meant it as a joke, but that cab is rated for 250w since it's a flatback, so I was afraid I'd OVERpower it!

I had a quick question about the pf-350.

I think that these amps sound quite nice with the gain cranked up pretty high, but then the clipping light starts to flash and even stay on sometimes. I know it's not good to overdrive a solid-state device, but I feel like the built-in limiter is there to prevent damage and that the clipping led seems almost as though it's just there for the sake of being there. However, I still keep the gain down low enough to avoid the clipping led coming on. My question is the following: how much blinking is too much, to the point of harming the amp?

I just checked one of my mounting bolts and they are
1and1/2" long.

be carefull when tightening them up not to over tighten them as the bolts may hit the internal pc board, tighten just enough so you can see the rubber feet start to get squished a little.

Since I didn't get the mounting bolts....does anyone have the bolts handy that could tell me what the correct length bolt is I will need?[/QUOTE]

I feel that if the red light is not on, you are not doing it right. Don't worry about it.

Hey guys - have had my PF350 for almost a year now and I can't complain about anything whatsoever!

I'll complain about my cab situation, though.
I use the two 210AV setup (in series? wiring cab to cab) and for some reason I feel like I lose some horsepower from time to time. I'm playing in a small room with a somewhat loud guitar and electric kit with a decent speaker setup. It may be the room, but I don't know.... I'm horrible at describing tone but I was wondering if I need a new cab? Love the look of the new SVT cabs. I guess I'm just looking for a "fuller" sound? I love that these cabs are so lightweight and powerful but I'm not sure they're cuttin it.

Any suggestions for a "boomier"(yes I just made that word up) cab that's isn't too heavy on the back or wallet?

TIA!

The pf-210s sound like what your looking for.

Agreed. Or any of the PF cabs. Definitely lower in the lows than the 210av's. I love the 210av's and use them all the time, but they're not the most heavy duty or bassiest cabs going. For me, they're great. For you, you should be looking at the PF line.

I play with a couple guys playing acoustics, and don't need much, but we do play outdoors a lot. (Neighborhood cookouts and parties.) My goal is small small visual presence with solid audio presence.

I play a Kala UBass and plan to run it through the 350 and into a custom built stained wood 1 x 10 cab. (Eminence Legend B102 8ohm 200W). Cab will be built to Eminence standards, sealed, approximately 12" cube, rated for 200W. Running the 8ohm cab busts the 350 down to 250W. I'll still be able to fart out that 10 pretty easily, but think I'll be able to get enough clean volume for the setting before that happens. Head in one hand will weigh 8, cab in the other @ around 15, UBass on my back. Done and done.

Thanks for the reviews / insight on the 350, it helped with my decision. Thoughts on this set up?
