Ampeg pf-800 update: shut down!

Are we back in the territory of I can't turn my higher wattage new school little head up like I can my vintage tube head for stoner doom without it failing issue again thread that got some folks so bent outta shape?
Not from my perspective, at least. I'm 60 and play blues/classic rock. Id like to clarify that both my issues with the PF-800 happened in less than pristine power conditions at outdoor shows. Never had any issues otherwise. Unfortunately those were two times too many...my confidence is shaken a bit.

Just to clarify...my intention was in no way to bash Ampeg. I like ampeg gear. That's why I went with it in the first place. And if I could get another pf-800 with confidence that I'm not gonna have to turn around and send that one back too then I would just try another. Because I really like it. But clearly there is a chance that I'll end up with the same problem. I've now seen enough accounts that makes me not want to take the chance. It works great if I make sure the gain and volume are not set past noon. But that's just ridiculous. So basically I can't utilize half what's available? It's the best of the PF amps. It's the biggest and the baddest of the 3. It's should drive these cabs I have with authority and then some. I specifically bought this model for that purpose. It's just plain disappointing that it won't. Fluke or not, it don't work as advertised or as intended. And that's 2 separate models now. Wish I felt that another would be fine, but I really don't know.

I'll be the first to agree that Jimmy contributes much to this forum, and many of us benefit greatly from his knowledge. But, it seems like every time an "unreliable Ampeg" thread pops up, Jimmy is right there with his "Ampeg can do no wrong" comments. Sure he's an endorser, but that doesn't mean much to any of us who spent good money for a product that doesn't always work as expected. I'm sure he would be a little upset if his new car shut down repeatedly and unexpectedly on the way to a gig, and the dealer told him it was just a fluke. Jimmy, we know how you feel about Ampeg, but try to hold off on replying to those threads. We're just understandably venting, and we don't need for someone to make us more frustrated.

Since we're dispensing free advice here today, mine would be that a TB member with a mere 186 posts in 13 years might want to refrain from issuing directives to one of the most ubiquitous and helpful members on this website. Jimmy doesn't come barging in to threads like this to damage control; he is in virtually all the Ampeg threads, all the time, dispensing advice like the Helpful Honda guy he is. He has answered numerous questions for me without benefiting one iota. I can't even get that kind of attention from in-store salesmen who stand to earn commission.

Using post count as some type of merit based system just seems silly. Plenty of folks here with high post counts. Doesn't mean they know anything other than how to post. A lot.

That pretty funny considering he barged into this one to do exactly that. Why else would he be in here posting that he and everyone he knows has a perfectly working PF and therefore OP's amp is an obvious fluke? I don't care how long he's been here or how often he posts. That's not the issue. To imply that makes him above any sort of criticism and to get so bent out of shape if he actually receives some is weird.
Ampeg usually make a stellar product, but the PF series isn't one of them.

The nice thing about NOT being a sponsor is that you don't HAVE to indulge the great unwashed.

I would like to take this opportunity to give a shout out to my man @lfmn16 for introducing me to the ignore list,
the next best place to send some after a sunless, stripy barred hole. @lfmn16, you know the game!
Take a couple out for me if you like, it feels fantastic to wash away the nattering, whining deadwood.

Why stop at "Ignore List?" Move up to "Ignore Thread."

I feel so good, my post count is going up. Nothing like becoming more credible.:)
