Ampeg PF-800

I rented a pf500 a few months ago to go with my pf115lf. It sounded really really good. The only reason i didnt buy one is because i got a pf50t instead
I've had a PF800 for 2 1/2 years. It's not my main amp but it's been a great little amp with a lot of smackdown.
If you can spring another $100, get the Mesa D800 instead. I have both, and the Mesa is WELL worth the extra money. Plus it's much smaller and weighs half as much.
I concur 100% with Mr. Jimmy. Very good amp. I use it with 3 diffetent flavors of Ampeg cabs with good results...PF210HF, PF410LF and PF115LF. Also not my main rig, but has been reliable and sounds great. Plenty of headroom! I plan to use it with the PF210HF on Saturday for a bar gig.

The PF-800 is a good amp. I really like mine, but there's not a lot of love here on TB for them.
I'm using a couple PF115 cabs. One for small shows, and both for bigger or outdoor shows.

Gig, Report- just got a pf800. I'll spare you the list before I got one. I used it saturday club gig. What great tone. Used the pf with a bergantino ht112er for the first set. worked really well. 2nd set ran the pre out of the pf into the bergantino ip112er/ht112er and was really happy the rest of the night. Tempted to make that my main rig, but I bought the amp for home/casuals as my main rig stays in the band truck. I'm still trying to figure out cabs myself, leaning towards the berg hg310.

The PF800 is really impressive! The onboard compressor is one of the more usable built-in compressors that I've used. One of the drawbacks of this amp is for the Lb pinchers who want the smallest lightest form factor. The PF series are undoubtedly small and light, but don't really compete with the pocket amps in that regard. As stated above, if you're purchasing new, I think the Mesa offers better tone for not much more, but I've seen plenty of pf800's used and the lower price makes them great bargains.
I was very inpressed with the PF800. I use a sadowsky pre with a my fender jazz bass 5 deluxe on passive mode. Always good to have a DI ready. The EQ point on the sadowsky is set at 40hz on bass and 4k on treble. those are very sweet points as seen becuase the new released subway 800+ and the pf800 have the same eq points. I use the sadowsky with my SVP-cl, not with the PF800. If I'd have gone with the old subway, I'd need to use the pedal. And I agree that the form factor is not the micro, but the tone outweighs it. Yes the pf800 is bargin right now, but not becuase its a bargin amp. and how many subway 800's have we seen as a result of the new + coming out. I guess Im truly becoming an ampeg junky. I had a TC breifly and I was setting it to sound like my ampeg pre, so I just sold it and bought the PF800, why as Bobby Vega said in a video "there's that sound"
Got one. Love it. Usually run it through two SVT-210HE bottoms at low volume.Power and tone for days.
It'll be a couple weeks or more before I get my PF-800, or a replacement back from L&M. I'm making do with a loaned Gallien Krueger 1001RB and my VT Bass DI (for flavour) in the interim. A very powerful and clean rig, but it doesn't have the Ampeg tone that I spent so much time searching for. It gets close with the VTBDI, but not quite.

I just received a PF 800 a few days ago and must say I love it. Last night I noticed that the power code when plugged in to the IEC power input connector moves up and down quite a bit. It seems snug meaning it wont just slip out but has play moving up and down. I can send it back to Amazon for exchange but not sure if it's worth it. Anyone else notice this on their PF800's or have any thoughts?
If the connector itself moves up and down, you can tighten it with the screws. If it's the cable, then try a different cable and see if it does it.
Cable it was. Feel like a dumbass... Assumed the new cable was good. Tried 3 others I had laying around all fit nice and snug. LOL

Any current reviews on the reliability? I had one when they first came out, two different ones actually, and the power amp would go into protect when pushed. Both units did the same thing so I bailed and went a different direction, but I loved the tone actually. Have they fixed that? Seems like it couldn't have gone on for long and them still exist.
