Ampeg PF350/500 Part VI

Yeah its not the sturdiest stack but I have never had mine fall over. I have thought about this though and if I needed I would put a couple of ratchet straps around the cabs to at least keep them as one unit.
My 210av stack only fell twice, both when I forgot that the head was plugged in and tried to disassemble it. Never during a gig, and never unless I did something dumb.
No way I'd ever let my rig be the backline for 6-8 bands. Too many players out there have too much disrespect for rigs that aren't their own.

I hear ya but my band is the promoter and its a benefit show with a lot of acts. I might just play it safe and keep them both on the floor. There's also PA support so it should all work out.
Yeah. The organizer needs to rent back line. If yours gets damaged, you'll be left holding the bag.
Edit: ah, well, even benefits have to pay their bills. Using your rig is bad. You need a 100% bulletproof rig up there like a pre and a crown and a cab that is indestructible.
I have one local street festival that I donate my v4b to but I tape over the knobs and everything stays flat. I escort each player up and off all day because many don't know about the standby function. But a cared for tube amp is nearly bullet proof IMO, but I still have to protect the cab from stupidity. I also plug them into the appropriate channel and set the vol and tell them if they touch the head, they may meet their demise.

I'm sure if my rig got thrashed, I'd get it replaced. Not really worried about that at all. My post was really about how easily the thing will topple because is see everyone stacking them and I've only done it once at a gig. They stay under my desk at home.
I generally have stuff that can take abuse... there's no 'trophy rig' at my house, just gear that I like the sound of and that I can drag anywhere. It looks presentable, but not 'precious'.

Well if you're comfortable then it's all good. I imagine lying them on their sides and stacking them 4x10 style is easiest. If you must go vertical, buy some 1x3 and make a support to lash them to.
Don't get me wrong, I don't like to pass my stuff around like a cheap whore. Only when my band is putting on the show.
Only twice lol! My preference for that rig is to put them side by side but I understand why you would sometimes want them verticle(dispersion, easier to hear). Great sounding cabs though.
Ampeg GAS bubble burst (again). Just pulled the trigger on the $50.00 off deal on a PF115LF. I'm going against the grain and using it stacked with my PF115HE.....JeffK said it works great.

My PF500 as the head to an old no-longer combo am (BA 210SP), loaded with the BP-102s is very satisfactory. Looks fine, sounds great. The cab is 4 ohms, but that's all I wanted to do anyway- to have a small, portable, potent and good-sounding rig. Done. No GAS.
Now I would like to find another of those 210 combos, load it as 4 ohms, and I'd use the tow of them with a Peavey Megabass head. That would be fun... but I'm quiet.

Also I started a thread on building a vertical 4x10... I'm functioing happily, but hey, aren't we always looking upward?
Anybody ordered from musicians friend and sent the rebate in? What did you use for a copy of the receipt all I got in the boxes was a return shipping label. Another question I just ordered a second cab and was wondering if I should get a speakon to 1/4 my head just came with a 1/4 to 1/4.
You should be able to log on to MF and print out a copy of the order receipt if not call them and I'm pretty sure they can email one to you. Are you going to connect from the head to first cab and then out from the first cab to the second? If so use whatever cable the cab jacks are, probably both types. I like speak on just because they lock in. Seems like I remember reading somewhere in these threads that someone had their PF amp crap out because the quarter inch jack popped out while the amp was on
I plan on going head to cab to cab. I think I will pick up a speakon to 1/4 though to keep the cable from being pulled out of the head. I forgot about the speaker cable being able to short out the amp.
If all the cabs have speakon and you can use them go that route. That way no cables can pull out. When I used 1/4 speaker cables I always wrapped the cable around the cab and amp handles before plugging in that way the cable can't get pulled out. Still do that with my 1/4 " lead from my bass to the head.
Well despite some disconcerting posts I took the plunge today; I ordered a pf500 from GC for $200+tax. I traded in my gkmb115 combo ($150) and used a $50 coupon. For two hundy I figured what the hay....
I did this for a few reasons:
- needed a serviceable backup (Fender tb-600)
- wanted to get out of the combo biz
- my old SVT-115e is lonely
- always liked ampeg tone
It gets here Wednesday so I'll try to post some pics as I anticipate the pf500/svt115 sexiness level to be quite high.
