Ampeg PF500/350, part 4

I've had mine for about a month as well pf500/115he. Used it at rehearsal and a gig and hasn't cut out yet. I'm gonna run it through a 4ohm 810 this week to see if it cuts out then. Cautiously optimistic. I'm wondering if the recently purchased ones have had the problem addressed. I've read through the entire thread and there doesn't seem to be any common denominator as to why they cut out. Oh well, I guess time will tell.

I bought my head new in November. I've been using it regularly for home practice and low-volume band rehearsals into 8 ohm and 4 ohm cabs (not at the same time :D ) without any issues. Did my first gig with it on Sunday. Passive 4-string P-bass>PF500>GK212 (4 ohm).

Settings:
No compression
Gain= noon
Bass= 1 o'clock
Mid= noon
Mid position= 3
Treble= 11 o'clock
Volume= 1 o'clock
Not really pushing it. It started cutting out (about one second each time) throughout the gig. I called Ampeg yesterday and they are sending a replacement out immediately. Great customer service! I'll post up after I get some time on the new one. Here's hoping! I really do love this amp!

Howdy TBers,

I've been scoping out the PF350 and PF2-10 cab (may wait it out for the 410) and eventually add a PF115, to replace my lacking Line 6 LowDown 110. Its served me well for the past few years but I seriously need an upgrade. I mostly play at church where stage volume is a problem so I would probably run the head direct to the sound board without a cab and then carry a cab along for the small gigs that my "outside-of-church" band plays. (essentially the same group just playing originals and covers around town)

I liked the sound of the PF350 but I was wondering if it was enough to push the 210 (or 410) AND a 115? Im not much of a tweaker so the extra features of the PF500 don't really interest me, I usually find a tone I like and leave it alone.

any comments and suggestions are much appreciated,
Thank you!

I'm using mine with a SVT410HE (8ohm), and I have had zero problems. Most TBers will advise you to not mix cabinets. If you have a 410 and need more volume, get another 410, as long as you don't go below 4 ohms.

My pf500 cut out when I used 2 8ohm, mb p102 cabs with it. My bass was an active warwick $$, with fresh battery. When I replaced the head with the mb F1(same watts), my rig is awesome.

When I had the pf500, I ran it with 2- 8 ohm-markbass p102's. The bass I used was a warwick active $$ with new batteries. The pf500 seemed to be overdriving my cabs, to the point where the sound cut-out & thespeakers looked like they were going to explode! When I used my markbass F1, 500watts, the sound is phenomenal, to say the least. I should have left well enough alone, and not let that cheap $400 dollar tag lure me away from markbass. All in all, you pay for the sound that you want, or you don't get it.

the sound cutting out is one thing, but if the speakers are moving, they're making noise... if you can see them moving, it's a lot of noise. This doesn't seem to make sense, the way you described it.
