But no flippy... :(

Unless you do what I am thinking about doing, and get two PF-115HE's (or the 210's), yank the tweeter out of one of them, and mount the 7Pro underneath the lid on the cab with no tweeter. When you stack them, though, put the cab with the tweeter on top, and with the 7Pro flipped up, it'll fit just fine. :bassist: :bassist: :bassist:

Yup that's what I was thinking too! I have 2 115's. Maybe port the cabs while I'm at it? Been thinking real hard about the porting anyway. What's stopping me is lack of info about the purple 15. If it is the right speaker for a sealed box it cant be ideal for a ported cab.

Excuse me if this has been mentioned, but I was told by my amp tech to not put my amp head on top of the cabinets.Way too much vibration.I know that caused problem s with my 800RB.So I want to hear from those whose amps are cutting out, even when they have the amp away from the top of their cabs.Just a thought.Brian B.

I just have to ask -

where do you put your bass head when you are gigging?

what is was thinking about. first i need to finally get the pf 15 as they are never in stock when i try to go play one..

The tonal balance of the sealed cabs is good as is. I'd be looking at porting to make them looser, airier, more efficient, louder -- kinda like a ported cab. ;)

That's a better description than I've come up with ;)

I'm happy with that little extra "feel" I got from porting the extension cab. Coupled with running the 15's full signal through the speakons, the mods really work for me- especially with the P-bass.

I believe that's by and large myth. I've never noticed any volume discrepancies between sealed and ported just by nature of whether it's sealed or ported.

Well, there are very few examples of valid apples to apples comparisons of sealed vs. ported. In fact I may have never heard one. To do so with the same drivers is invalid since the optimal drivers would be different for either porting option. My experience is that more power is required to drive a sealed cab.

Jimmy, I agree that I probably would not get louder maximum usable volume, but I do believe that with the right drivers I wouldn't have to push the amp as hard to get to happy volume levels with the cabs properly ported.

It is a shame you can't record an A/B comparison of the two cabinets Stiles, but my guess is the "feel" you get from the ported cabinet wouldn't come through as well on an audio recording. Probably more of a kinda-had-to-be-there thing.

I'm technically challenged when it comes to recording, making videos, and putting stuff like that on line. I'm at the level my dad was back in 1984 when we got a VCR and he couldn't figure out how to program it. But I agree - I don't think the "feel" will necessarily translate. I did a crude demo a long time ago comapring my B15 to my B-100R, and on the recording the B-100R just didn't sound like it did in the room. The mic was picking up what was right in front of it, and not what was coming from the back of the amp. I suppose I could have thrown a mic back there - but it was just a quick demo and my first attempt at something like that. I have a buddy who is good at this sort of stuff - so maybe I can talk him into coming over and making a little demo sometime.

A lot has to do with the mic, too. You need one that can actually go that low. And the response of the mic should be relatively flat or you might have to re-EQ to get it to match. One reason people like the RE20 and the PR40 for bass cabs.

Only weekly? No, you have to bust it out every day!

Well, you would if I had one, but I don't, sorry. But if I did I would gladly...eh...no I wouldn't, I can't lie.

The handles came in today from Ampeg. I spent about 45 minutes measuring and about 10 minutes drilling and attaching them. Now two people can carry it up stairs and it will be easier to maneuver in and out of a trunk. All that is left is to cut the holes for the handles into the cover. The bottom line as far as modifying the cabinet is the fact that I intend to use it for the rest of my music days here on this earth. I have no thought for resale value or anything like that. It is still all genuine Ampeg!
