Agreed. I've left mine off on the PF115HE since I toyed around with them the day that I bought them and like it that way (unless I want to sound like Marcus. :D)

Two serially wired 4 ohm cabs would equal 8 ohms of resistance, however, which means they wouldn't be able to draw the full 500 watts of the PF-500, so it's not an ideal configuration.

discovered that setting gain levels with the compressor off eliminates this cut out problem that people have, except for the melt down one...... a fire extinguisher fixes that one...

Mine started doin it, and after contacting ampeg, and doing what the suggested, seemed to settle it down again.

Jimmy, you have 2 PF cabs, right? If so, do you run both horns at -6db or one on/one off? I usually run both horns off, but I found running just the top horn at -6db was bearable if I needed it in a muddy room. I'm curious to see what you think.

So I have a question. I was playing though my pf500/pf210he tonight for about two hours when I started getting this wierd sound, kind of like waves crashing on a shoreline or something. The gain and volume were both set just past 12 o'clock, and the compression was about 9 o'clock. Neither light was on at all. Cycled the power switch and the sound went away. Any idea what that was?

It was plugged into the wall outlet, and I moved it to a power strip (should've did that anyway). Also I was running through an OD pedal and synth pedal, but both were off. The synth pedal was running on a battery, and it eats them fast. Don't know if any of these things might have a bearing on the issue.

After not having an amp for the last 2 months as my LMII took a dump. I finally went and picked up a pf500. Interesting weekend,,,sold my Warwick to an employee of Jackson/Charvel so I got to take a unofficial tour of the Fender factory in Corona and then used part of the proceeds for the pf500.

Thank you everyone for their post's on this amp. It really helped solidify the purchase for me. I can't wait to get it dialed in ! Sorry for the crappy pic as it was a cell pic.

How far away do you live from the beach?

Could be a number of things, including some of the things you mentioned in the paragraph I didn't quote.

I lugged it home from my practice space so I can run it in my living room (at a lower volume) all week and see if the problem happens again. It was very wierd. We were playing in my guitarist's basement using his house power, which he says is old and crappy. He says something similar happened to his PA amplifier months ago and he replaced it and starting using power strips. I guess we'll see. The power in my house has never been a problem and it's a newer neighborhood. I hope nothing's wrong. I really hate the hassle of boxing stuff up to send out.

Since my pf500 came home with me from my practice space for a few days to go on probabtion, I figured I should have a little fun with my Ric-o-sound and create a little "living room doom"!

I got the stereo splitter cable so the bass pickup is going into the Ampeg rig, and the treble pickup is going through an OD pedal into my Peavey Basic 40. The Peavey is only 40W, but it can get pretty loud for a practice amp, and in my townhouse living room I can't play loud anyway, so this works just fine. Lots of fun with all the various combos you can get using the stereo Ric output and two amps. Anything from mid-rangy Geddy growl to a muffled doomy sound.

If only I could crank it up and let the whole rig stretch its legs...:bassist:

I ran my pf500 through an Ampeg fridge this weekend. Pretty fun stuff! I really like this amp. The features, the tone... unfortunately the whole "limiter" issue is a deal breaker for me. Setting the gain before compression doesn't make a difference with my unit. It doesn't really seem to be a compressor issue. The amp just gives up on loud notes and sounds when it is running with the gain and master above noon. It's BS as far as I am concerned, and keeps this amp from any serious consideration as a regular gigging rig. I'll stick with an amp I don't like as much but i know I can run to capacity when needed without performance worries.

Been anxious to play one of these and was excited when my local music store called me last week to tell me they finally got one in. I skipped my company Xmas party on Friday night to hang at the music store and play my Fender P through their PF500. I really fell in love with this amp. Easy to use, lots of features, plenty of power, aesthetically super cool-looking and absolutely killer tone! I really think it's everything I will ever need in an amp. With the reliability of this head being scrutinized a bit here on TB, even after hearing it, I was still a little hesitant to buy it. I thought about it over the weekend and decided to make the jump. I went back to buy it and a PF210 cab Sunday night but whoever was minding the store that evening apparently decided to close up shop fifteen minutes earlier than their posted hours stated. Lost an $800 sale fella, nice going. Turned out to be a blessing though, because MF was happy to take my order over the phone yesterday. With a coupon code I found online, they gave me $150 off the price of the stack, shipped it for free and gave me 6 months interest free financing. Can't wait to play my new Portaflex !
