I just pulled the trigger and got myself the pf500 and the 210 as well.

I got a great deal too, because of the labor day sales going on. I saved over a hundred dollars.
Really sweet deals out there. I'm super exited about this amp. Should be here some time next week!!!!

Awesome, thanks for the quick reply!

Yeah that's fine! If I need any more grind I can always pick up a pedal.

I may look into the GK 410MBX then. Pretty sure that's a 4ohm cab.

I see, of course you're referring to using the head with just one of the 2 PF cabs right? Should be fine with a good 4x10?

My main issue is that I can't try one out. No shops near me stock Ampeg!

Ya, I was talking about the PF210 and 115. Good loud cabs that might struggle in overly loud situations. A 410 should at least get you through a practice without struggling. If it doesn't, then everyone else should turn the hell down because that's an insane amount of volume for a small room.

Hey Mike,

Thanks for the review and glad the PF setup worked out for you! Also, I think that's a great picture! Dig the stage lights on the amp. :bassist:

Good idea on the covers as well. The link Mike nicely provided for covers (AmplifierCoversOnline.Com) is a UK company. For any of us Yanks looking for covers ;), I checked a link one of my guitarist friends passed me a while back and they have covers for the PF115/210's:

Link Removed (scroll down about half way)

They're pretty darn good covers, said guitarist got one for a vintage Fender amp he picked up. Course, if you're waiting for the ones that say "Ampeg" on them, you'll have to wait until whenever they release!

5sg.

Good review. And yes, absolutely get a cover. I got lucky because I already had B-15 covers I got from Fliptops and they fit. Ampeg is coming out with covers soon, but you should definitely keep it covered if you're going to travel with it.

Thanks Jimmy!

Silentmike I'm currently listening to a couple of your bands songs on youtube. You guys have a great sound. Im a huge EITS/sigur ros fan. I love your stuff.

sorry to derail the thread.

Cheers Jheake, much appreciated! If you want some free music head on over to our bandcamp page! Also, enjoy your rig when it arrives :D

We're actually going into the studio tomorrow to start recording our album, so I should I have some nice recordings of my rig soon.

Hey Mike,

Thanks for the review and glad the PF setup worked out for you! Also, I think that's a great picture! Dig the stage lights on the amp. :bassist:

And again, thank you for the kind words. I saw the lights on my amp and I thought it was pretty cool too so I snapped a picture.

It would have been funny if you'd have let us in on it ;)

The PF500 won't nail the really hard distortion you get from cranking way up, but it does a great mild grind like when you run a tube amp just into the red zone. And I totally think they cop the SVT/V4 sound if you like clean or mildly distorted tones. Not too familiar with the Ashdown, but I have yet to ever play a heavy SS or hybrid amp with an iron power transformer that cops tubey tones like these.

Haha, sorry that was a joke, and a bad one at that. I actually play with a pick far more than I do with my fingers. I am trying to get better with finger style though.

So what is going to do a warm, tubey, sound better, the PF500 or an Ashdown ABM 500?

Does the PF500 nail the SVT/V4 sound?

I play with a pick more often too and what I found out about these amps is you'll want to boost up the MIDS a little more on them because they're a bit "scooped" when set flat (visually).
Read my previous post if you want to see my settings for pick-rockin tone. The tone is pure AMPEG.

Keepin it simple for this weekend's gig. No effects. Just a Ric, a PF500 and a 410hlf classic.

Thinking about using my 210av's with the PF350 tonight. Not sure yet...I guess I'll make that decision when the time comes. I will, however, bust out the old Radio Shack violin bass.

It's times like this I wish TB had a "like" button ;)
