Not more, were just discussing something that we aren't quite sure about. It could be completely normal. In which case its getting blown up in this thread for no reason. I'm far from hating on the amp, in fact I love it and wouldn't hesitate to buy another one right now.
For me its more about learning, as far as what should be doing what etc. I have been playing along time. That doesnt mean however, that I know everything there is to know about amps AND that why I support talkbass. So if something is going on that I don't understand (even tho it could be intended) I can find out information from a large variety of people, to get their opinions.
Its really just me and mental that are discussing our heads, there isn't a bunch more per-Se. A few other folks have voiced their opinions as well.

My apologies if anything i have stated is scaring ya, but honestly my amp works great and there's nothing to worry about.
I'm really just discussing what is going on with the preamp and im not sure i understand it. thats all the amp is fine imo. i honestly dont think ill be sending it back unless LOUD tells me to. i think its just getting blown out of proportion.

I've noticed that the compressor can sound rather "abrupt" when it engages sometimes, and though I wouldn't call it a clipping sound- I can see it being described like that. I found that by playing around with the gain and either lowering the compressor (or cranking it way up) "softened" the compressor - making a smoother transition when it kicks in. And if that doesn't work, I just turned the comp off.
I tried my PF500 with an active P lyte that is much hotter than the jazz to see if it would have the clipping problem. Everything flat, no compression, with the gain maxed without the -15 pad. The peak light was on the whole time. No strange noise, but lots of fur. Not sure what I would do with this tone.

I really like that tone. I wish my pf-500 would do that without doing the sporadic popping and buzzsaw synth sound.
I'll admit that I don't have that much distortion on when we do At the Hop and UnchainedI suppose we could slip Frankenstein in between At The Hop and Unchained Melody...
But I always have a little on it these days. Just enough to thicken up the response of the high notes.
Jimmy M is right about it being under warranty. I already did one exchange on my PF500 and the new head seems to be better than the first one, though I did post some comments about my replacement head, nuff said there. These heads are covered for two years by LOUD, and they do honor their warranties, so I can attest to that. Being this is my first time with a class D amp head I decided to take the GC extended warranty for the head, though having worked retail I normally don't buy these sorts of contracts, and that's another topic. It buys me an extra year of peace of mind basically, besides covering a few things that LOUD doesn't, and in this case it's still cheaper than buying a new one. If I end up having to use it, it'll be worth it to me. If I don't, then GC won on the deal. I'm hoping in the long run that these amps prove to be reliable. Other than a few issues so far, I'm really liking my new rig.
I can get my head to make the clipping noise with my J-bass too. It's much lower output than my P-bass is.

A quick update on my noise/distortion issues. I had the house to myself this evening so I could really crank the master volume. With the volume cranked up my amp is definitely experiencing clipping issues and distortion. Playing softly on my j bass with the master and the gain both set to around 3 oclock also produces very distorted sound. I hadn't tried the amp running at full volume until now, and I would expect more clean headroom than this.
You have the volume and gain set at 3 o'clock? That's not far from full on for both. Then it doesn't surprise me you have distortion issues.
It's distorted with the master set at noon too. And with the master set barely on too if the gain is full on. Check out the vid I posted a page or two back. I was just trying today to see if turning up the master had any effect on this issue.
