+2 but I'm ok with sound clips though

Lol. Thanks guys. As if it doesn't irritate me enough... lol

Hmmm... Sound clips. I've done plenty of clips for pedals, but never one for an amp. I'll have to see about borrowing a mic from my sound guy since I don't have one. Ooo, hold on, I've got a Zoom H4n (duh!). Maybe I can get something this weekend! I'll get back to you guys on that...

Man, NOW I really wish my PF115 was here!

That would make you a hero btw. I'm about to make the pf350 my first amp purchase and hope to hear it before I buy it since no stores near me carry ampeg(weird huh). But I have heard a svt rig before and liked it but it wasn't me playing so idk.

I can't wait to hear how that goes. With all I read about those cabs everyone likes them but no one seems to pair them with a ampeg amp(or so the search feature told me).

I will give you an update when I have the amp. Hopefully I get it about the middle of next week. I really want it to be the greatest thing ever. So I might be setting myself up for disappointment or slanted views. My last rig was an Aggie sc500-112 combo and another gs 112. I am sure the TB153 will appear louder and deeper.

So I have been thinking of getting the Micro-VR stack for a while now, but am considering going with the PF-350 to power the SVT210AV cab(s). My drummer is stupidly loud, I know the extra 150 watts won't make a huge difference in volume but I am hoping I won't have to push the head as much that way. My concern or question comes with the power ratings. The SVT210AV is rated at 200 watts each so at a 4 ohm load I should be good with the 350 watts out of the head from my understanding. it's just that ampeg seems to have put the cabs for both the VR and PF at double the power ratings of the heads, is this for any reason, would the PF-350 not be optimal for the VR cabs, should I just go with the VR head?

ampeg generally rates their cabs at pretty close to what they do in the real world, as opposed to using the point that the voice coils melt and break like most other companies. so i'm pretty sure you would be good to go with a pf-350 and two 210av's. but like you said, don't expect miracles out of a 150w bump.

Okay, some initial feedback on the PF500!

Keep in mind, the info in this post is with headphones only, until I can get to the practice space in a few hours and hook it up to my Avatar B210. Obviously, no headphones can reproduce what cabs can do. :)

I plugged my bass straight into the PF500 and powered up, and immediately knew I'd like this amp. Even just through headphones (earbuds I use as in-ear monitors... not ridiculously expensive, but not cheap either), it has a great bass sound. My Jazz V sounded more like it usually does through my live rigs, which surprised me quite a bit.

The controls are great! If you've been following this thread, you know what the PF500's got, so I won't bore you all with "This is the compressor, this is what it does." ;) With the Ultra Hi/Ultra Lo and Mid Frequency selector switch, you can really dial in an impressive variety of tones with this amp. With all the controls flat on my bass, I was able to dial in all sorts of sounds... scooped slap, motown, Jaco, etc.

Pushing the gain up led to more aggressive overdriven tones, of course. I won't render a final verdict on the overdrive sound until I get to the practice space, but right now I don't feel one way or another about it. It didn't sound fantastic, but it definitely wasn't bad either. Maybe it'll sound better through a cab? I suspect that I'll probably leave overdrive duties to pedals on my board though, like I do with my Shuttle 6.0.

I'm pretty darn impressed with the PF500 so far, and I've only spent about an hour with it in my apartment, just using headphones. The real verdict will be with an actual cab of course, but so far it seems like a VERY versatile amp!

More solid info (and hopefully clips through the cab) to come later... :bassist:

Thanks. But, at the risk of sounding like a jerk, I was disappointed when I read "initial thoughts" and then "headphones.". Please let us know as soon as you can let this baby rip!

I know, I'm SUPER anxious to get it going through a cab as well. But since I live in an apartment, all I can do is use the headphone jack for now. That's why I said "initial" thoughts. Some of them can still apply either way though... I can still tell what the controls do (and how much they do it) when I turn them, right? ;)

Exactly Congrats on the amp, btw.

Thanks :)

They won't ship me my PF500 until my 115 comes in stock :bawl:

Slowly waiting :)

Man, it's almost better that way. I was okay being patient and waiting for the new Portaflex stuff, but now that I've got the amp, I REALLY want that cab to come in. And they keep pushing the date back a week at a time. :hmm:

I wonder though... did you order the stack from MF? I preordered the day they posted them on their site, and the stack wasn't an option yet so mine counted as separate items. I bet that's why they won't ship yours separately.

That is exactly why! I did the combo deal, because initially they gave you a 100 save for doing that. Later that was changed. If I had known that I would have done the order separately :bawl:

Ol well...I had to order a GK MB200 just to have something to play on since I had sold all my other equipment :ninja:
