Ampeg SGT-DI

I could be wrong but wouldn’t the headphone jack on the pedal override the output? If so, you’d need to plug into the Scarlet.

I have a similar setup and plug my headphones into the scarlet, then connect the scarlet to my computer via usb c for power and sound output. Doing this allows you to play along with anything on your computer (eg Apple Music, YouTube, etc). Just remember to hit the monitor button on the scarlet so that it sends audio to the headphone jack.

Picked one of these up as a Christmas gift to myself and it’s exactly what I’ve wanted this entire time. The tones this thing gets was the missing piece. My wife also paid for half of a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 so I can start recording. So if I want to play the Ampeg through that so sound comes out of my MacBook should I connect XLR SGT>Scarlett but then where do I connect my headphones and bass? I just want to run the pedal direct so trying to ignore my amp for now. This is my first foray into recording and DI stuff so sorry for the questions but thank you for any pointers!
Run SGT into Scarlett an use phone audio from Scarlett to monitor it. Pretty straightforward, IMO.

However, you could bypass Scarlett if you do not want to record something. Just plug phone out from mackbook into SGT aux in, and the plug you phones into SGT phone output. I had Shift Line Olympic preamp, and use it this way. Most comfortable for jamming and practice. Just notebook and preamp.

That’s what I thought but wasn’t getting Audi so I thought I did something wrong. I changed my music area around to make recording easier so I’ll give it a try again later. I know I’m not that incompetent lol

Don't sweat it. As a fellow noob, it's taken me some time to figure out the ins and outs of all of this too.

Got the SGT-DI a few days ago and while I’m not likely to put it in front of an amp, it is simply the best headphone practice amp I’ve ever used. Totally worth the investment for that use alone (tho I did get an awesome deal on a used one.) Great sounds are in this box; the switchable cab models really offer loads of sound variation — and I haven’t even gotten to hooking it up to the web interface yet.
Great piece of gear — well done, Ampeg/Yamaha!

This is what I'm doing all the time at home. My favorite feature is that I can practice with this at home using audio from the laptop, and take the same pedal out to play. Going direct, the sounds just work. Makes life pretty easy.

Todays amp-less rig.

How does the SGT-DI take drive pedals and the like before it? I've been reading it doesn't like hot signals
It acts like an amp in the sense that the more you put into it, the more gain sound you get from the SGT circuit. It handles hot signals fine but a few of my passive basses hit it hard enough that I can’t get a clean tone even when SGT is rolled way down. Of course I can turn the SGT off, but what fun is that. A compressor or something to control the level in front works for those bases, but a built in input pad switch would eliminate the need.

I'm a few weeks in to working with the SGT-DI. Here are a few impressions:

Pros
- The inputs and outputs are FANTASTIC
- Great for quiet practice using the Aux in for music and headphones out
- I actually use the aux in for the in-ear monitor mix and then use the headphone out so I get more control over the bass tone I'm hearing in the monitor mix. This might be the best feature of the pedal for me.
- I enjoy both the SVT and B15 tones. I have an origin effects Cali76 dual stacked compressor and Noble DI model from an HX stomp ahead in the signal chain, which results in sweet, sweet, punchy, rich tone
- The pedal looks fantastic
- It feels well built and that it will stand the test of time on the road

Cons
- I didn't like any of the CAB IRs. Even after making pre-amp adjustments, the high end just gets too muffled. I tried importing other IRs and tweaking IR settings in the app, but never found anything that improved the overall tone. This is my first time experimenting with CAB IRs. Maybe this is what other folks a looking for in their tone. For me, I want to hear those crisp highs and high mids coming through.
- I feel like the pedal has too much noise if I push the high end on the pre-amp EQ or toggle the ultra-hi switch. Not a deal breaker, but noticeable.

Other notes:
- The Darkglass B3K sounds great ahead of this pedal with the SVT / SGT circuit enabled
- I have a 3Lead Doom 2 ahead of the SGT-DI which I think sounds better with the SGT circuit turned off and the ultra switch on
- I don't care much for the SVT or B15 tones with the gain pushed much beyond 9 o'clock. However, at the 9 o'clock mark, both circuits add a noticeable and tasty tone to the mix.

This has been my experience with cab sims in general and I've had some good gear. Every time I enable them the tone gets worse.

Hi all,

Looking for opinions

I am looking at either getting the SGT DI or the classic preamp pedal plus scrambler pedal. My question is has anyone played both and how do they compare? I am looking for the ampeg sound but mostly for a clean tone with mild drive. I don't need the cab sim or compression. Is the SGT DI worth the extra cost for what I'm looking for?
