Ampeg stack?

Color me confused...

If I ask for an opinion from people far more educated and experienced than myself, I typically don't then argue with them about why their opinion/experience is faulty.

The key is; it's your rig. Buy what you want. But why even ask if you're just going to argue against their answers? o_O I, for one, am thankful when someone steers me away from a decision I may have regretted.

In fact, this post did just that. I have a 410 cab and was looking at adding an extension cab. I was considering a 212 or 115. The experience and wisdom of others have steered me away from those choices. I'll be in the market for a 410... But that's me.

I have 2 young kids at home and have to deal with it all day long.

Just wanted to add in case you were not aware.

Matching cabs means exactly matching. Same make/model/speakers/size/porting/tuning.

Adding some other 4X10 can also have negative consequences.

You obviously didn't read all of my replies to all the comments. In an earlier one I did in fact show appreciation to all the advice and concluded that the majority rules because of the individuals experiences despite what Ampeg says. Why question and insult before you know the facts? Not cool.

Hmmmm...I was positive that the HE cabs were sealed, however I just took a look at their website, and you are correct! There are ports in the bottom of the back of the cab....Interesting. I wonder if they changed the design of that cab after a few years? Can anyone confirm if the 115HE has always been ported or not? I did a search here on TB and there are numerous references to it being sealed....:eyebrow:

I said nothing insulting. I'm sorry if my comment made you a bit sensitive. I was merely making an observation that a question was asked and then, initially, nearly every response was met with immediate rebuttal. I realize you eventually conceded. I am aware of the facts. I wasn't insulting at all and didn't mean to offend. I only wanted to make a comment that, it simply strikes me as odd when [insert my initial post here] happens. I'll sit here and stew in my uncoolness. :thumbsup:

I like the combo of both cabs rather than one or the other but if I had to choose one or the other i'd go with the 4-10"..

The PF-115HE is sealed, the photo on the Ampeg website is of an LF cab, you can even see 'LF' at the end of the name on the jackplate if you zoom in a bit.

The factor people tend not to take into account when they are contemplating mixing and matching cabinets is the sensitivity. If you are pumping the same signal into two cabs, the lower sensitivity cab is always going to be behind.

PF-nnnHE (sealed):
99.5 dB SPL 1w/1m [PF-115HE]
99.6 dB SPL 1w/1m [PF-210HE]

PF-nnnLF (rear-ported):
99.5 dB SPL 1w/1m [PF-115LF]
101.0 dB SPL 1w/1m [PF-410HLF]
