Ampeg SVP-CL - D.I. outuput balanced out.

Just a curiosity about the balanced line out of this preamp. Is it a microfonic level or a line level?
I ask because a friend has one of these preamp and the DI balanced out has a really low (-40db) level out.

It is supposed to be microphone level, but -40dB seems very low even for that.
