Ampeg SVP Pro crackling

I know there is a thread about that but it doesn't seem to be the same problem I encountered - I get a very loud crackling noise when hitting notes within 10-15 seconds after power on.

I tried switching tubes between the various sockets, replaced the AU7 with an AX7, moved the AU7 from v4 to v5 to no avail.

the tone is still there and it sound ok, it's just those loud annoying crackles that overpower the bass sound and may damage the speakers...

help will be appreciated,
thanks.

Same thing happened to me. Take it in for service. Likely "cold" solder joint(s). Mine were in several places. Mostly around the tube sockets. Shouldn't be real expensive to fix. If it is that, best to get it fixed. It'll die on you when you least expect it. My local tech solved it for the bench charge of $35. Good luck.

I know this is an old thread. I had the same issue with my late 90's SVP Pro. After it warmed up it would start crackling and popping occasionally to the point that I thought I might blow a speaker. I took it into a friend of mine that repairs Crown amps and such. He resoldered all of the connection points and it has been rock solid ever since.
