Have you done the calculations or measured if the bass control is centered at 40Hz (SVT CL manual spec) or 20Hz (SVP CL manual spec)?

Read my previous posts please. And yes, I ran them through a frequency analyser and its all the same.
Hey, I read your posts and I do not question your results at all! I am curious about if it is 20 (strange) 40 (makes sense), and why one of the original user manuals on Ampeg.com is wrong in more than one place.
I am just loving the hell out of this preamp. I understand it better after owning a real 70's svt for some years and also, I own better cabs now, that aren't scooped out. Im keeping my VTRM but, it got kicked out of the gig rack. The svpcl is just so much more clear and deep. I see that my EH 12ax7 and 12au7 tubes have been delivered and I'll probably get to install them tomorow afternoon before practise. Im also receiving an eminence beta 15a that will be going in a sealed cab. It should sound great with this preamp or my real svt.
Tried all EH tubes. I ended up sticking with the EH for the pair of 12ax7's but didn't like the AU7's as much. They gave the preamp a certain thickness in the middle mids that didn't feel right under my fingers so I used the Jan/Phillips Au7 in position 2 and a groovetubes in position 4. The old Phillips tube makes every preamp sound better, more clear and responsive. So, thats where Im at.
Last few gigs I used my supertwin cab. I set gain to 10:00, ultahigh in, low cut at position 3, bass all the way up, mid 450hz 4:00, treble 10:00. It sounds like rock and roll! Low mid punchy and just alittle nasally/mid growl and od.
I run my real similar to that I am playing a P Bass through a homemade Faital PR400 loaded 215 cab tuned to 45hz it's super punchy and clean! I wish I would've found one of these preamp sooner! And I am definitely on the lookout for a back up one if anybody on here wants to sell theirs I'll take it
Thank you very much for posting that setting. I would have never tried something like that if you didn't suggest it. It sounds great! I hooked it up to a visual EQ because I wanted to make sure the Bass on full @ 20Hz wasn't going to overload the mud frequencies. It didn't do that at all. It just brought back some of the bass that the low cut had cut, just in a slightly different spot. It was very clear and full.
I had to put my gain at noon though because my SVPCL is the first run with the lower output. Certainly not an issue with the Crest ProLite 3.0 poweramp. That has the lower input sensitivity so they match up great. I even bought all the parts for the upgrade, but didn't even bother doing the upgrade.
My current setting is the same but, ultra hi out, 800hz @ 3:00, treble at 3 at gig volume. Treble maxed at low volume.
I tried something similar to that at band practice last night as well. I'll probably keep slightly changing the mids and treble, but the low end seems great with the low cut & bass boost.
Can someone tell me why Ampeg stopped making these and how much they originally cost new. If they still made these I would put it and s crown power amp in a road case for nights I don't feel like pulling out the svt.
I think they cost $550 or $600 new (nowadays it would be more), and the reason they stopped making them is because very few people were buying them and opted for heads instead.
I just acquired an SVPCL in excellent cosmetic condition with an 'S' year serial number. It was with one owner it whole life and just got a checkup from a local (seller's) amp shop. Totally quiet and tone is great, but like another poster here, I have to max the gain to get the clip light to activate even a little. I also have to run the master at 3 o'clock to get the level up. Sounds great, and by running the gain and master nearly dimed I can get the level up to where my SVP Pro is (at a third the gain). Does this sound right for this preamp? I was under the impression that an 'S' serial number year was built after the initial batch of low-output units.
Actually, they don't. Using Laklands with Audere pres and Sadowskys. I have the opposite issue, they're sometimes too hot.
