Ampeg SVT-210AV info

I better understand your motivation now. 210av is much lighter than pretty much any Ampeg cab, so definitely best bet. Definitely best bang for buck.

And yes, getting speakers closer to your ears helps a ton with monitoring and how you play, even if the actual loudness increase is not huge.

From your goals, I think adding one or 210AVs make sense. Hope it sounds really good for you if you pull the trigger.

Yeah, I’ve decided I’m going to sell my BBII and go down the all Ampeg route. It’s just a case of what I get first. 2x 210s or the 112av. Then adding a single 210 down the line, where I can lay it on its side on top of the 112, with the V-4B on top. Then eventually adding the second 210, stacking them both vertically, finally putting the V-4B on top of them both. I assume this “journey” will work?

With all three cabs being the same line of Ampeg, you think they’ll be any issue driving all three cabs at the same time at 2ohms?

Three 8 ohm cabs is 2.67 ohms as previously discussed. This is not ‘officially’ supported by Ampeg, but various threads have various users attesting that it is fine to do and their amps continued to operate normally.

If it were me, I’d only run the 3 cab setup for gigs only, no more than a few hours at a time.

are you able to try either before selling your BB? These cabs sound great but do keep in mind they won’t have that super deep subs presence that Barefaced do.

This may be what you prefer, but if you are able to compare side by side I would highly recommend.

Also the 112 has a tweeter, slightly better bass response but the 210AVs don’t have tweeters. So switching to the Ampeg 112 might be a better fit/transition, especially if you aren’t able to test first, or if you have to sell first before getting new cabs.

Yeah all good points and things for me to consider.

I do like my Barefaced, but the “super lows” I find hard to tame at times. Have to turn the bass dial right down. I definitely prefer a tighter, punchier sound. Maybe the 210s are for me after all…

Just a few extra points.
Regarding ohmage, as long as total load is above minimum, it can't hurt amp/speakers. can run 24/7.
There Ampeg 112 being both ported and 300 watts has a higher theatrical spl . (The 210avs are 200 watt max and "infinate baffle" ( sealed)..
Regards barefaced bottom end, a hi pass filter (HPF) will tidy up,
Cheers .

I’d still love to try the 2x10s on top of the 1x12 configuration, just caught in two minds on whether it would be ok, as I know it’s not “standard”. I use a hpf with my BBII. It does work, but the overall loud nature of the cab amplifies the lows a lot.

Like I mentioned before..I'm positive that the combo of 2x210av and 1 X 112 av ( total load in parallel being 2.67 ohms) will sound 'balanced & even '..
Driven by an V4B's 2 ohm output will b absolutely "safe" to run , for as long as the head's valves will last . .
I'm seriously considering adding a stv112 av to my 2x 210.avs.. (my Darkglass Microtubes 500 V2 will also drive 2 ohms.)

Thanks mate! Might have to be the aim then! We should run the experiment together haha

Try it..it won't.. can't hurt anything!! If it doesn't sound to your liking , U could try putting 2 x210avs vertical, and next to it put barefaced up off the ground, say on an adjustable get amp style stand ... off the ground it will lose low end efficiency...or sell for svt112av

I still recommend only running 3 cabs for gigs/short periods of time only.

I’m not an expert in amp design by any stretch— and Old Ozzie Guy is correct that a small mismatch won’t hurt the tubes at all.

it’s the output transformer that is strained, at least from my reading. This isn’t a SS amp with a minimum 2 ohm load that can do anything in between; the output transformer has specific taps for specific loads.

So If there was no issue, why would they put in extra cost and engineering to specifically have 8, 4 and 2 ohm outs?Again, small mismatch so probably not a big deal, but if it were my equipment I’d just be aware and use it judiciously

I get your point. I think the 2x 210av might be the way for me to go for now.

Just need the stack to be circa 40cm higher off the ground. Wish there was a place you could buy flat risers at that height, specifically for amps and cabs.

Yeah I’m buzzing for it! I love the Ampeg sound, so the more of it the better. I’ve always preferred 10s as I find them less “boomy” and way more punchy. Hopefully this does a good job as a small “fridge” type stack.
