ampeg SVT 410HE tweeter knob area vibrating/noise with low E string notes

I have an SVT 410HE with a GK 700rb. The cabinet has developed a loud vibration noise when letting any note on the low E string of a 4 string bass ring out. The vibration emanates from the housing on the back that contain the input jacks and tweeter knob. If I cup my hand over the round indention that the knob sits inside of, it gets subsides. Basically as the note is ring out, if I apply pressure to the metal plate area it subsides quite a bit. I've tightened the nut on the tweeter knob and the screws that hold the plate on.

The amp settings are nothing dramatic on the GK - woofer at about half way, volume barely on, bass at about 2/3 the way up.

Basically it's a farting out sound that I did not notice before. Any suggestions about what can be done about it?

I had this happen to an amp. It was from the crossover being loose on the back side of the plate. If any screws loosen, or if they use a glue and it fails, it will start to rattle, and get worse over time. I’d say check the torque on the screws, and the hardware on the inside of the input plate.

I was just going to suggest the same thing!

trebbihm had the answer spot on. Two screws were missing out of the four, and another was loose, that screw into the posts that hold the circuit board of the crossover to the entire back plate. Found some screws that would fit and tightened it up and all was good again.

Did you look inside the cabinet to see if you can find the missing hardware? If it’s in there, it’s bound to cause you trouble in the future.
