So nice to see Bill Hughes get some Ampeg love again after working at Fender for so long! If you ask me, Bill was responsible for finally making Fender a player in bass-amp world, and while he didn't invent the Ampeg sound, he certainly made it louder and fuller. Salut, Bill!

He spent around 10 months there in the 80’s as he describes in the video. Interesting engineering life.

Wow, he's seen it all and done it all in engineering. And it does sound like he straightened out their amp making pretty well while he was there.

That was a good one, Ron :D

Yamaha has delayed releasing it because they want to make 100% sure it's ready for prime time and wanted a little extra time with it. They do a ton of peer review of new products and they don't let anything new out on the market until they're sure they're happy with the solidity of it. On one hand, that means they might miss deadlines. On the other hand, it means the likelihood of what happened with LOUD a couple times is way lower.

And technically, we're still on the 50th anniversary, as the SVT came out in the fall of 69. I doubt it got into stores all over the USA and world by the end of the year, either. So if it comes out by the 25th like Sweetwater says, it's still relevant :D

I searched for this thread just out of curiosity to see what people think of their new SVTs only to find same replies as in November. I get all that QC and everything which I agree with but come on, a company as big as Yamaha should know how to plan for a deadline, this is ridiculous. I’m so glad I’m not on that waiting list. Really curious what’s the reason for such a delay.

I grabbed an 07 VR for the price of a spare set of tubes for the meantime.

That's the going price. Theres no hisses snaps crackles or pops. Not yet anyway. Apparently its all SLM boards etc... there was one on here with a cab last month.

Not really....I've seen many Vietnam vr's for sale for not much more than a grand. 1200 Can is 800 us. How much is a good set of tubes. I've owned blue and blacklines and this is just as good. The only issue I have found is the vol control on both channels doesn't come on until 1...and the fan is loud but that's an easy fix. Its great to have to take to gigs and leave the vintage at home.

What bothers me is there is no mid control for that second channel. I realize there wasn't one in the original, but to bill the second channel as "1975" well, right from the start it is lacking something.

What I would have expected, was that both channels had the three way EQ. You know, Two channel ones basically, one from 1969 and one from 1975. But to do something as logical as that would have probably meant a total redesign and wasn't worth it in the end.

If you add the same style controls to 2nd channel you'd result in a copy of 1st channel which would not make sense. The naming is confusing because 2nd channel from circa 1975 is identical to that 2nd channel from 1969.
