I’m still waiting..... I never buy a new amp from the first run just in case they need to work out some stuff but I really want one of these in the next year or so...

Ampeg SVT 50th Anniversary Edtition

It's probably such a minor deviation from a VR that I would be very surprised if it has problems...then again it's a new company in charge, so who knows...but Yamaha is usually pretty solid.

Sacto nice to see you! I had a funny one this week, some hot roddin' teens who live across the street from me added "godawful garage
jam" to their list of sonic offenses, and I realized it was my moment to not call cops, but to deploy big iron.
I gave 'em 1200 watts back, and boy come to find out I sounded just as bad as they. I need to practice more while plugged in, if only because it will keep me in touch with my tuner. But there were other issues, too, ones of timing and even string control. Also, I realized how infrequently I practice standing up -- I was wrestling with my instrument. Plus, being in fist-shaking-codger mode, I realized I did not have the poise to play well when agitated...I had rattled myself. So many issues!
Next time I won't be so quick to draw on teens. I'll just jump to the shame spiral instead

. Oddly I occasionally get banner adds for the 50th AV Edition while viewing Talkbass. I have absolutely no real interest as my 69, Skunk, and 8-Pro are all the SVT I need

It reminds me of 1972 when I was 16 years old, and my drummer friend, my guitarist friend, and I got together in my garage, and we cranked it up and played Jumpin Jack Flash, Johnny B Goode, and All Along the Watchtower. I can only imagine the teeth-gritting, wide-eyed, frazzled facial expressions that my neighbors must have endured!

The amp as shown at the beginning of the thread is certainly a beautiful piece of gear. And you're right, having announced the item,
they are certain to deliver it.
My snark was inspired more by how long some if us have been waiting for vintage cloth to be made available again. It has been years. But as I stated above, any improvements in gear, be they cosmetic or mech8anical, will not do much to correct my the deficiencies I seem to be cultivating at the moment. #losing
That out of the way -- tell us about the Pro 8 ! that's rare as hen's teeth. 1600 watts at 2 ohm yes? I started a thread about it once to ultimate crickets.
Proud Pro 5 owner here, also rare but not so rare as the 8!
Here's what I don't get: if all Ampeg does is constantly put out old designs, how is a reissue like this supposed to be special? All they do is reissue 50 year old equipment.

You guys and your silly impatience! Ampeg has always said that summer 2019 was their target release time for the 50th Anniversary SVT. And I can't think of an Ampeg product in recent memory that wasn't released within a couple or 3 months after it was announced besides this one. So quit the whining, people. It'll be out when it's out!

My guess is, some folks prefer the old "big iron" designs but with new components and a warranty, and other folks don't care for the old designs and prefer more modern amp designs. Different strokes I guess!
Plus, some folks find the idea of an amp being made in the USA appealing, hence the Heritage series and now the soon-to-be-here 50th Anniversary SVT made in the USA. Choices are nice to have!I'll say this: the tone and feel of the USA Ampeg SVT-VR that I used to have was, for me, mouth-watering! The only reason I sold it was the 85-pound weight (I'm 63 years old and I'm not as strong as I used to be, dang it!) But that SVT tone and feel is, IMO, awesome, and that is why I think Ampeg continues to reissue the SVT in its various forms.
Fortunately, the Fender 100T all-tube amp that I now own is only 48 pounds, which sounds heavy in today's world, but is a featherweight compared to the SVT-VR.

I agree on the SVT-VR, I am only a layman but that remains the prettiest amp I have heard.
Yeah I have been following the Vintage Grill Cloth dilemma as well. I think it looks way better than black.
