Ampeg SVT 6 PRO problems

Hey Fans of the Bottom End,
I've talked to Loud Technologies for over 5 years about My 6 PRO not having as much intestinal fortitude as My GK 1001 RB 2. As long as I was running 2 8ohm Cabs it was almost as loud as My GK so I accepted Their excuses. Once I down sized to a single 8ohm I realized They had been lying. Has anyone else had this problem with the Vietnam version of the SVT 6 PRO?

My church has had one for about seven years (not sure where it was made) and we had it powering four Hartke cabs at two ohms for all that time with never a problem. Then, last July at an outdoor show we had it fries. Well done I might ad. Local tech invested too much time trying to fix it, Loud wasn't helpful, even worked with original amp designer, still couldn't get it right. Sent it to Hendrix sound in Orlando and they fixed it but it still doesn't seem 100% to me.

I run it at 8 ohms now just to be safe but it is no where close to as loud as it was. A friends Trace Elliot 250 watter out runs it at 8 ohms. So also does my Mesa 400 w/6L6's. Maybe it's the impedance but it still produces static and pops occasionally from the power section; not being a tech w/an oscilloscope I can't validate the power output.

Personally I wish we'd sell it for cheap and move on. I'm surprised you spent as much time waiting on Loud as now the 6 pro is in the planned obsolescence stage. IMO it's time to move on.

Well first off, the 6 Pro is rated @ 4 ohms MINIMUM, so no surprise it finally fried after being run @ 2 ohms for so long. I'd see that as a testament to good build quality to put up with that sort of abuse for so long.
But back to the OP- different amps are voiced differently. My USA made 6 Pro ran a 4 ohm 2x15 in a very loud 6 piece band without issue. It's important to understand, not only are amps voiced differently, so are cabs. If you're searching for a particular sound, at a required volume, ALL the pieces together should be selected to achieve that goal. The 6 Pro has a deep voice, unlike the more clanky and mid focused GK head you're comparing it to.

That's why I was going to bench it just to see if it's Me or what. I don't want to throw the Baby out with the bath water. I did get a Hartke LH1000 because it has the same power rating in bridged and that thing is stupid loud! Kind of in the same vein tonality wise though. It's a warmer than the GK.
