Ampeg SVT 7 Pro Club

The brown truck brought me a lovely 7-Pro Rev C yesterday.
I only had a chance to crank it for a short period tonight but thought some might like to read about a quick comparison to my Ampeg SVP-CL pre with SVP1500 power amp.
Cabinet is a 2x12 Dr. Bass today.

All in all:
I like the 7 Pro slightly better.
The pre/power rig is slightly more dynamic but also as not as sweet and more clinical.
Not saying that either sound cold or bad but the 7 is more musical.
Odd in that the pre has 4 tubes and the 7 Pro just 1
The midrange EQ (same controls) do react differently in both frequency centers and "Q" (to my ears). Not to say one is better; just different.
The 7 does have more bottom when both are set flat.
Needless to say both have plenty of girth and authority.
I reserve the right to change my mind after some rehearsals and gigs but the initial impression is the 7Pro sounds smoother and more tubey than the 4 tube pre with a big heavy iron amp.
Pretty cool.

Yes. The settings I was using were-
gain-around 2:30
comp-9:00
bass-2:30
mid selector at 3
midrange 12:00
treble 10:30
master 12:00
ultra high not engaged
ultra low not engaged

Tried this settings with my 7 Pro and it sounds really good through my 410HLF Heritage !

here's my 7PRO with a pair of PN-115's. It great when gigs only require one cab but is thunderous with both.

How do they sound ? Cause Im quite temped to sell my 410HLF Heritage for a Pro Neo (115 or 410) cab !

Yes.. I would like a number.. Bought my Rev A00 when they first came out, had an issue shortly after I received it then worked great till couple months ago. Contacted Ampeg and they replaced it with a Rev C00. Playing it thru an Eden 410xlt and love the tone and get compliments often..

If you like 15's they're great. IMO fairly neutral sounding, punchy, and can move some air. A pair is overkill for many gigs but occasionally both come out for bigger stages or where minimal PA is provided. I prefer the horn dialed near off. If you really like 10's these may not be for you but it's a good choice if you like 15's.

Hi Guys,
UK 7pro owner here.
Had it just a couple of weeks now and so far so good. I've done a couple of gigs with it at fairly high volume and no issues,it's a Rev C.
I use a Laney NX810 on my bigger gigs but I'm looking for a smaller option for Pub gigs.
A quick question if I may, has anyone tried it with a Genz Benz NX2 212T ?? I had a listen to one last night albeit with a Markbass LM3 and the cab sounded great, very punchy with a tight bottom end (ooh matron !).
I play a 2002 Thumb 4 NT if that makes a difference.
I'm wondering if the Genz/7Pro would be a good combination before I throw £770 at one.
Thanks in advance and refreshing to see / read a positive thread about the amp.

Thought Id drop by... Stoked with my SVT 7 had it about a year now, it sits upon 8x10 Classic stack... along with various pedal porn... Im interested to know if anyone uses a preamp with there SVT? And if so what has been the benefit .... was toying with racking it up with the Tech 21 Sansamp rbi ..... Cheers for any help...

I would run the RBI into the effects loop. Then you could control the saturation blend from off to full and anywhere in between. Then you can judge how much it does or does not add to your tone and tell us.

A borrowed SVT-7Pro (supposedly new) quit on us when opening for a showcase earlier tonight, in the middle of the first song. It made it through sound check just fine. About 2 minutes into "Footprints", it just cut out. It was not being pushed hard at all; fairly small jazz club (20 tables). We reset it twice by yanking the power cable and power cycling, restarting the song each time. This was good for another 2-3 minutes of play time. On the third cut-out, we stopped and set up a DI to the house PA.

It did sound good paired with the G&L L2000 until that point...

No problems here and I have had mine for about 6 months. I push mine pretty hard and have yet to have an issue, even when I purposely tried to get it to cut out. Sorry to hear about your issue, that can be frustrating!

Hmm, reading through some of the posts in this thread has me wondering whether it was just being overdriven on the input side, and we needed to engage the 15db pad to keep the amp from going into protect mode due to a clipped input stage?

Honestly, I've never had to do that before with my L2000 with its stock onboard preamp... And it didn't sound clipped at all while it was working. I guess if we end up using that amp again (with a back-up next time of course) it's worth a try.
