Ampeg SVT 7 Pro Club

The gain structures on these amps are probably way different. My experience with Ampegs, you really have to crank the gain to get the volume out of them. It's in there, you just have to turn the gain up more than you might be used to on most other brands. Many other brands, I have noticed you can't use the gain knob that much. It's just a different way to look at the amp. No two amps knobs work the same.

I'm sure others can elaborate better on this.

Well with a Ric with flats and an always on fuzz pedal, I run the 7 Pro with the gain and bass around 3:00, with slight increases on the mids and highs with the mid selector at 3. I found the master volume to increase the output volume all the way to full clockwise, unlike the Orange which seems to no longer increase in volume past 1:00 or so.

I find the Orange to have a much louder immediate volume, but a lower maximum volume. I'm using a Greenboy Dually, and when I gig I actually have to set my TB1000 volume knob around 1.5 (on a 0-10 scale) or else it's just way too loud!

It's worked out great! I recorded the Supervoid EP with it. I find it a little nasally/honky with the Ric, and have preferred the tone of the Orange, so the 7 Pro is currently my backup. I have a custom bass with humbuckers coming, and will definitely put the 7 Pro through its paces with that. The Orange definitely wins with the Ric, but I have a feeling it may be the other way around with the new bass. We shall see!

Either way, for a guy with a 1000 watt cabinet, a 7 Pro and TB1000 is a pretty epic set of amps :)

But if you crank up the gain the peak LED will come on more often, right ? Doesn't that give any issues regarding clipping and stuff ? Some say that people just need to 'ignore' the peak LED but still i'm a bit afraid of it. I really don't want to blow up any speakers, especially the ones from my Heritage 410HLF.

Well that's why your 500 watt amp is "louder" than your 1000 watt amp :P The Orange doesn't have a clip light so you are likely driving the front end much more than you are the 7 Pro. Ignore the clip light, listen with your ears. Be careful, as the cab is only rated for 500 watts, but the clip light really has nothing to do with you reaching the thermal limit of the speakers in your cab.

Question for the rest of the 7 Pro owners, are you all setting your gain this high? Anyone have experience with this amp and the 610HLF? I just wanna make sure I'm gettin the most out of this set up as possible without hurting anything. Thanks...

I keep my gain at around 2 'o clock, but I also run the drive on my B3K at noon, so I have a really dirty tone. When I'm not using my B3K I run the gain at 3 'o clock, I use an 810e though, not a 610hlf. I assure you though, you won't hurt anything pushing the gain hard, ignore the clip light.

You can have the gain knob cranked all the way up if you want, and as long as you keep the master at a level that won't blow the speakers, it'll be fine. Doesn't sound all that hot to turn gain up all the way IMHO, but it sounds way cool to have it cranked up enough to get some medium distortion going. And if you like it clean, then ignore the light and turn up the gain to the point where it sounds dirty and back off a little from there. The light should at least be flickering a bit. Don't worry about it blowing up speakers...it won't as long as you're smart with the master.

So finally got home after 2weeks on the ocean. Came home to a cn212 and the 7 pro:) opened them up at rehearsal then to a gig the next night. Loving the punchy ampeg tone. So its brand new from zzounds and its a Rev a. Kinda bummed to be honest. I guess There's nothing I can do except slam it and see if it has the cut out issues right? I mean I cant call ampeg or zzounds and demand the newest Rev. Hopefully its good to go. Anybody else recently bought a 7pro Rev a and if so what did u do about it? Very very happy with the tone thus far and ill get a chance to crank it later this evening with a cn212. And a fender 610 neo

Gigged my new 7 pro Saturday night. Used it with my Carvin BRX 10.4 neo cab and my Gibson T-bird. Awesome is all I can say. I forgot how much this amp can sound like an SVT-CL. Just great tone all night.
