Ampeg SVT 7 Pro Club

The rev a, through rev c models were known to have this problem. Do you know what rev it was?
I figure if anyone knew best about anything ampeg it would be you, but I thought I did hear of some issues up to and including Rev B. I haven't heard anything about Rev C00 and after that though.
I played through the amp again tonight in a rehearsal environment, and I can confirm that this is a rev A00 model. I tried using the 15db pad to see if it helped, but the amp still cut out twice in about an hour of playing. I was using the same G&L L2000.
So, if this is a known issue, is it something that can be addressed by Ampeg? Or is that hardware revision too old?
(I'm not sure exactly when this school acquired the amp... but I seem to remember it appeared in the rehearsal space about 12 months ago.)

Unless the warranty is still in effect (probably won't be since rev A is way old now), you won't get it for free, but I do think you can get an updated board replacement. Might want to call or email Ampeg.
OK, thanks for the info... I'll pass it along to the school owners and see what they want to do.
They also have a BA115 with a bad 0db input jack, and it's been that way for more than 12 months and they couldn't be bothered to do anything about it. I might have to volunteer to drive them over to Woodinville or something one afternoon.
Well, it might be. I'm trying to go off memory on that, and well, for some reason my memory is not as good anymore.
The 12ax7 in this is wired to the gain knob correct? How much does it really affect the overall tone? What is the stock tube? Will the stock GT12ax7 from my 100t be a better choice then the stock tube in my pro7? Sorry for the 20 questions. Thanks tho!!
I don't know all the answers to your questions, but yes, it's wired to the gain knob (so that it will color the pre-EQ DI tone as well; it affects the overall tone hugely; stock is a JJ. I've never tried to use a GT, so I don't know.
Can anyone tell me if I change the valve on my 4 week old 7 pro will it void the warranty ??

PS, If anyone's interested, In answer to my own question a few replies ago,
the GenzBenz NX2 212T pairs very well with the 7pro.Gigged it last night with great success.

I have a 7 Pro but haven't rolled the pre tube yet.
I've read that John K experimented did but I can't find the thread.
I've consistently liked Telefunkes, Mullards, & Amperex 12AX7's in MI amps as well as tube stereo. These tubes are $35-$75 each used and will last a life time. If these are too pricey find a good used USA long plate.

Btw mr DMK.. The link for me was a no go on my iPhone. Anyways yay for. A cheap amperex is 75. I wanna get something for it just to compare and see if the tone improves. Not that I'm unhappy with the tone. I've been rockin a pro 7 cn212 with a zoom b3 in front with the bddi setting and a compressor. Sounds super. But u guys know how it is.... Gas or boredom Or whatever I wanna switch it up for fun
I'm about done with NOS 12ax7's, too. The cheaper RCA gray plates I usually get that used to be $20 are now $50 or more. I did find a couple Japanese Raytheons made with Mullard equipment for $30 ea, but next time I'm going to try the new Tung Sol 12ax7's, which are like $16.
Me too; I have either taken them from old equipment or bought them used.
IMO, the used tubes that test well are a steal for $30-50 unlike these cheap firecrackers that are available for sale these days. IMO, tone is better too.
Ask some of the senior techs on this board as they taught me.
For any that don't know, the tubes from a lot of the Dynaco, Fisher, and Baldwin Organ pre-amps are rebranded Telefunken or Mullards.
Have not read that any of the new tubes sounded better or were reliable to 20+ years.
Just my opinion...
I've gotten a quite a few years out of some of the new ones. Hit and miss, though. I do still prefer the NOS tubes, but I'm not about to pay $50 for the worst of the NOS tubes.
