OK I will definitely have to get this checked out then ... hopefully it can be fixed as I love the head..
Huh. I don't hear any difference between -15dB button in or out with my passive VP5, as long as I adjust the gain to normalize the volume. Am I missing something I would only hear at high volumes?
Probably not, but in some amps, the tone can get messed with a bit when you use it. Plus it greatly lowers your potential for getting cranked and semi-cranked tones out of the preamp.

Input impedance often varies between active and passive inputs. I always use the passive input/mode, even with active basses, unless and until it becomes a problem.
Not to change the subject, but "storm ravaged"? It was that bad? Wow, hope you and yours didn't suffer too much damage.

It's arguable whether or not a tornado touched down (some say it did, three times), but the results were pretty devastating to trees, cars, power lines, and some buildings. Fortunately, no one was hurt. This happened right after I left for the Summer NAMM Show, which meant that I was not there to help my wife, kids, co-workers, community, etc. That was very frustrating. Thankfully, everyone seemed to get through it okay. My house and office lost power for several days, and we lost a big tree and part of our dock at home, but no major damage.
And no worries, all the bass gear survived, as well!
I still need to find the time to take a chain saw to that big spruce...
I know what that's like, cutting away fallen trees with a chainsaw after a storm...I live in Florida! Well the main thing is nobody got killed or injured, and let's face it...cutting trees and removing the debris is good exercise

I want to get a 7 pro for a second or backup head. Im going to run a 4ohm, 1000 watt,
6x10 Goliath Sr with it in a loud twin gtr heavy rock band. My other head is a 700 RB II and it cranks. I assume the 7 pro should be comparable volume wise with the SWR cab?

Question for you 7 Pro users...
I am thinking of getting one, but my cabs at the moment are Epifani PS112s. They are rated for 300 watts RMS, 600 watts peak. I usually take 1 to rehearsals or small shows and bring both for normal-to-large shows. Is anybody using the 7-Pro with similar, smaller cabs like this? Is the taper of the master volume gradual enough so you can use it with smaller cabs without being crazy loud immediately, or would I risk blowing my speakers?
I am especially concerned about using the 7 Pro with only 1 of the cabs, not because I think I will blow the speaker, but because I am worried that, even with 1 cab, it will be too loud for rehearsals. I, at least for now, won't be able to keep a smaller amp for those situations. Should I be looking for a PF500/800 instead or will the 7 Pro work well enough for this?
For the record, the PS112s are nice and loud and, when I have used them with a Markbass LMII, they have been loud enough for all kinds of shows, large and small. I'm not worried about the SPL produced by the cabs being enough, I'm worried about the wattage, and/or volume, of the 7 Pro being too much to control.

I've got the T112 Epi and T110 Epi and run them together and individually and they sound great! The master volume works wonderfully, allowing me to use gain to get anywhere from smooth silky to a nice growl that ampeg's are known for. I've never had a problem.
For bigger gigs I have a SWR Megolaith and it's almost too loud! I can't imagine the 610 being too far behind that...that head is plenty for any setting!! Massive bottom end!!
The 7Pro volume control works very well, just turn it down. I use mine as my practice amp with a fEARful 15/6/1 (very very loud). It can get whisper quiet like pretty much any amp, just use discipline and don't turn it up too loud. Luckily the 7Pro has a very linear volume taper so you have plenty of control at low volumes.
Well, you all convinced me. I took the plunge. It is scheduled to arrive today. I'm still a little concerned about it having too much power for certain situations, but headroom is never a bad thing I guess.
Of course, I will run it through the paces tonight. But the real test, on the gig, will come soon enough and I will share my experiences & thoughts here afterward. Hopefully, someone else will benefit from my experiences the way I have from reading everyone else's thoughts in this thread.

A friend offered me a good deal on an STV Pro 7 when he heard I was considering getting a PF500/115HE. My question is would the Pro 7/115HE be a reasonable match? Could I mount the Pro 7 to the flip top on this cab (the Pro 7 is only slightly larger than the PF500)?

As long as you understand that there's no way you can crank a 7 Pro hard into a PF115he, it'll work. But if you have an itchy volume knob finger, then I wouldn't do it.
up to you, but I wouldn't get a 2nd hand 7 pro. Not with its track record n non transferable warranty.

I love the 7Pro through the PF115HE! You could theoretically fit the 7Pro on the fliptop lid, but the head will not clear the tweeter. I had thought about getting a second cab, and then taking the tweeter out of one so that I could do this. But really, it's not that hard to just treat it like a separate cab/head rig.
As mentioned above, you do need to be careful not to overpower one cab with the 7Pro.
