Ampeg SVT 7 Pro Club

As opposed to? To get full power from the amp, one would need to run either 2 8-ohm cabs or 1 4-ohm cab. Running a single 8-ohm cab should be less taxing on the amp, assuming one is using the amp normally.

FWIW, at the risk of jinxing myself, I have had my 7-Pro for almost a year now with no issues of any kind. Running it into either 1 or 2 8-ohm cabs always. Great practice tool as well, with the headphone jack and aux in.

I'm running through two 8 ohm cabs. Don't think I can see how a single 4 ohm cab or two 8 ohm cabs with one plugged into the amp and one plugged into the other cab can make any difference to the amp. Not that I'm any expert though. :cool:

I'm banking that the number of perfectly working 7Pros vastly out numbers the failures. Although I did make sure to buy new from an authorized Ampeg dealer/service center. :thumbsup:

It doesn't, the amp "sees" the same load of 4-ohms either way. I think the reason why most amp failures happen to people running 1 or 2 8-ohm cabs is that...most people use 1 or 2 8-ohm cabs. It makes for a more modular setup, 1 cab for practice and small gigs, 2 for large gigs. Almost every amp on the market is designed to work just fine down to a 4-ohm load, regardless of the number of cabs used b

Just as I thought. All I know is my Spectors sound incredible through this amp.

FOR ALL YOU PRO 7 GUYS, HAD A CONVERSATION WITH AMPEG TEC VIA TOLL FREE NUMBER. HE TOLD ME THAT HE'S SENDING THE REPAIR CTR A NEW BOARD, REV-C, AND THAT WILL MAKE MY AMP NEW. BUT IT IS NEW, I SAID. IT IS A REV-C 3 MONTHS OLD. I ASKED HIM TO SEND A REV D, E, OR F. HE SAID REV C IS THE MOST CURRENT. THAT WAS 6/30/14. PS, IM USING AN AMPEG SVT 410 HE CAB, 8 OHMS

OK, will try to figure it out by myself:

- ultra high and ultra low disengaged
- bass, midrange and treble to center
- midrange frequency selector should have no impact as long as midrange is set flat
- gain not overloading
- compression off

What do you think? Am I right?

I must say that when I compare the SVT-7PRO headphone out to my Cafe Walter HA-1A headphone amp it does not sound 'neutral' at any setting. Not a bad thing to me since I love the sound of it, but it colors the sound even with all shaping turned off and the rest dialed in at noon. On the other hand, I can't believe that a VT Bass doesn't deliver usable sounds through the SVT-7PRO pre- and power-amp. You could also try to use only the SVT's power amp through the "power amp in" connector on the rear panel.

Maybe it will be helpful if I explain what I expect from using the VT Bass with the SVT7Pro.

My intention is to use the VT Bass as an 'always on' effects pedal. I need a 70's bass sound for my rock cover band and in the long run I don't want to change any settings during a gig (set and forget is what I need). My precision bass tone control and my fingers must be enough to change my sound in a live situation.
What I therefore want is the typical ampeg sound with some tube-like dirt, warmth and growl. Chris from Tech21 support suggested to set the amp to all flat and start with the VTs 'fat tube' sample setting. Then using the amps tone control to fine tune my sound if necessary.
