Ampeg SVT 7 Pro Club

Man, for an amp with such controversy around it, it sure does sell. I had to wait out two backorders before I got mine because they had to make sure their dealers were covered first. Which is fair...they need to make money and I had plenty of amps already. Well good for them...I still consider it the very best sounding lightweight amp on the market, with only the Genz Benz Streamliner providing any real competition in that category IMHO. YMMV may vary about that but I don't care ;)

Played my first show with my 7Pro and my PF410hlf last week and had no issues. Lot's of compliments on my tone, even from other bass players in the crowd, and everyone loved the looks! I bought the 7Pro new about two months ago and I play it almost every day for 10 min up to 4 hrs at a time and so far so good!

I was a little disappointed with the PF410hlf though. The tone is awesome, has killer looks on stage, is light and easy to load in and out but I had trouble hearing myself on stage. The club provided the PA and soundman and I used the DI on the head into the board so I was just using the PF410hlf for the stage. The soundguy had to tell me to turn down a few times because my stage volume was too loud and my friends in the crowd agreed, but I think since the 410 is so short, I couldn't hear it as well standing close to it. I'm used to playing 2 1x12's stacked which is taller than the 410, putting the top 112 closer to my ears than the 410.

Not sure what I'm going to do about that. I love just bringing the 410. I was thinking of getting a PF115he for smaller shows and bringing the 410 for larger clubs but now I'm thinking of getting 2 PF115he for when I have to stand close to my stack and bring the 410 for when I have enough room to stand further away from it.

I've had the same comments/issues with my HLF 410 SVT. I've read about the concept of standing wave length, and, if there is room on the stage, standing farther away from the cab does improve your ability to hear it. Not always possible, though.

Alright -I am finally in! After selling my PF800 on Wednesday (as per above) I thought I had to endure a month on back order - but yesterday afternoon I got the call: my 7 Pro was in

Here's a crappy cell phone shot with my main cab. They sound awesome together. I knew they would as I had a chance to rent a 7 Pro and trying it for a weekend before buying. If anyone is on the fence between a 7 Pro and a PF800 there is no contest in my opinion. Its well worth the 4 extra lbs and $200.

You described the setup to a tee! That's exactly what I get, great lows, clear highs and a very flexible head in terms of adjustment - built in compression is perfectly matched, and adjustable frequency for the mids make all the difference! I sound like a commercial for Ampeg! Giging with it tonight at a Blues club, looking at 4 hours of playing - the Acid Test!

I also had my first gig with my recently acquired (used) 7-Pro last night. It was a four hour gig with an average volume level - roots/rock type band with no pa support. I used it with my Heritage 410HLF and a '51 P Bass. The amp sounded great - and like Sick Aura posted earlier, I also am coming from a PF800 as my last lightweight amp and I agree that the SVT-7 is definitely a step up in tone and authority (The tone quality sits right between the SVT 2-Pro and the PF800). The PF800 is a great amp, but these models are priced accordingly IMO.

I am really happy with this purchase - and I am looking forward to rocking this rig out again tonight - this time with a more agressive band at an outdoor venue.

For those that are interested - I just checked and my Pre-Amp Board is Rev B01 and my Power Amp Board is Rev G and what looks like 02 (so Rev G02)

Still Rev C00 on the top of the amp though I seem to recall hearing or seeing Rev C01 but I could be mistaken there

*** GIG UPDATE*** 7 Pro performed flawlessly, 4 hours at medium volume in a fairly small, but packed, house! Four piece blues band, got many compliments on my sound; the patrons liked it too! I have nothing but good things to say about this rig!

Given the concerns I had read about here, my SVT7-Pro showing up DOA (replace pre-amp tube - see posts above) I was more than concerned and took my Markbass as a backup to my last round of gigs.

Done 4+ gigs with the SVT7 now, and ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE TONE from it!
No gigs this weekend - were off because of a venue closure - but I have 11 more gigs between then and May 2nd.


mine is:
Amp is REV C00.
Main PCB looks to be REV "G_00"!
Pre-amp PCB is REV "B_01"!

FWIW. .... My 7 pro preformed flawlessly while I had it.
I sold it partly due to so many ppl posting probs with theirs but mainly coz it didn't float my boat tone wise.
Afaik it's still performing perfectly with its current owner. I did say to him to contact me if he needed any help warranty wise. I've heard nothing.
The tone of it was fine but I was moving to get another all tube head- had my sights on a SVT-VR until a respected and very experienced TB member suggested I try the Fender Super Bassman and I ended up getting that. 1 it was a grand cheaper than the VR here in Aus. 2. 20lbs lighter and had the overdrive channel.
I'm sure I'd still be happy with the 7 pro if I'd kept it and I wasn't a mad all tube player.
In a perfect world (or if I was rich) I'd have the 7 pro and the VR & the Super Bassman & an Orange AD200 and. ............
