Ampeg SVT 7 Pro Club

I hope so too! When it's works, it's an amazing amplifier.
I got my new 7Pro a while ago after Ampeg decided they need to ship my faulty one to their labs to inspect it further. So far, so good. I'm afraid of using it at home because of the poor electric job, every so often I hear a loud *click* noise. According to Nuendo's volume control, the amp is sending a super-loud clipped signal.
I need an electrician. ._.

I am an electrician, this could be many different things though. first I wuld make sure the outlet is grounded, just because it has the ground plug/opening on the plug dont pmean it really has a ground wire hooked up. pull the lug out just a little and look at the bottom right hand corner, see if there is a ground wire hooked up. it may be on the top left corner if it was installed upside down!
Question for you guys. I recently got a brand new 7 Pro and I'm wondering if you are able to get any OD or distortion by pushing the gain? I have not been able to with any of my basses, all passive. I turn the gain on full, the clip light will turn on but I don't actually hear any sort of distortion. For me that's fine as I really don't like preamp distortion but im just wondering if that's normal with this amp. And no the pad is not engaged.
I've been able to get the cranked gain distortion pretty decently with a 7 Pro. It will vary with the output of your basses, but you should be able to get at least a mild grind out of it.
I can get my 7 PRO up to a mild grind here as well with my passive basses. For anything hotter, my VT Bass pedal comes to out to play.
interesting, mine just barely has a little grind with the gain on full. I do play with a fairly light touch though but still, this is the first amp, other than my Matamp, where the preamp doesn't distort for me. I gotta say it has a lot of power but it hasn't really wowed me like the Walkabout as far as tone goes. it seems dull, and the EQ is very subtle unless you boost or cut severely. Nothing like my SVT and doesn't do the "tube" thing very well. Having said all that it sounds really good in a band mix and works really well with pedals. There have not been many SS heads where i liked the sound of a fuzz pedal through but the 7 Pro does it very well.
Yeah I'm able to get mild and pretty pleasing grind. Maybe try reseating your tube or swapping it if you have some on hand?
i tried but the s****y screws that Loud uses on the chassis were way too tight and are now stripping. so i stopped trying....

LOL! And what would you have said if they were looser? "Nobody at Ampeg knows how to screw in a screw."i tried but the s****y screws that Loud uses on the chassis were way too tight and are now stripping. so i stopped trying....
Get a bigger screwdriver with an end on it that actually fits the screw
Trust me it was the right size screwdriver. 2/3 of the screws came out fine. But a bunch were over-tightened and did not budge.

Ha! I almost never agree with any of the fanatic crap, but I gotta agree that if you use an appropriate size screwdriver tip, screw head stripping is highly, highly unlikely.
I didn't call anyone a moron or say that the screws weren't over-tightened, just that a with a phillips head tip size matched to the screw head size, stripping is very unlikely.
you have no idea how tight these screws were. i finally managed to get all but the one on the front left corner. Eventually i had to take the cover and pivot it around the screw to see if i could get it to budge. i finally managed to get it loose after about 20 minutes. the cover actually has dents from the screws being so tight.
Anyway, long story short, I swapped out the JJ 12ax7 with an EH12ax7 that i had lying around. more dirt but still not a ton. the eq sounded more responsive (but i don't think the EQ is tube driven, so maybe it's jsut the EH voicing played nicer with the tone stack) but the EH was too harsh in the mids, so I'll stick with the JJ for now.
